I'm willing to give any player a chance who can help us win or maybe better yet, fail
Besides, we dont have a choice yet.

Let him prove himself 1st in the minors like any rookie and if he does well call him up to play on the 4th. Then he's got to play well and earn his place on the PP and top 2 lines.

Yes.

He never got a chance to get on a roll this year, injuries have held him back from training camp on.

If he can't play at this level he doesn't deserve that big pay-cheque. He should retire, in my opinion. He has no heart for this game anymore.

Go ahead and prove me wrong Gomez, but I doubt you have it in you.

I don't see what choice we have. I'd keep giving him a chance until we have a better option, basically. I'm pretty sure that guys like Aaron Palushaj and Andreas Engqvist are NOT better options. Not even better than the dismal version of Gomez. I still have (fading, almost extinguished) hope that Gomez could rebound to his former non-dismal status as a player too. So it all adds up to being a no-brainer that he gets another chance, IMHO.

But the chance has an expiry date. He can become "more dismal" to the point where even our lesser options are better players. There isn't any pressure to free up cap space right now, not mid-season. But in preparation for next season, we sure know we can spend that cap space more effectively, so any opportunity which arises to help us towards that next-season goal needs to be seized. I don't think any team is going to trade for him this season, or take him on waivers, but those are worth a try. Sending him to the minors IS NOT worth a try. Not yet. It would gain us nothing at this point.

June 15th comes around... check out the prognosis on CBA negotiations, stuff like that, be ready to revisit all the options. If things are looking like a lockout or about rollbacks or changes to the buyout provisions and things like that, it could be advantageous to just sit tight.

I'd give him a bit of time unless a trade offer comes in. However he would have to either center the 4th line or play the wing. You never know, Cunneyworth might be able to get him playing a bit better at least.

Play him center on the 4th line with Darche and Noke when he comes back, give him a chance to earn his ice time... our whole team was **** at the beginning of the year so I'll give him one more chance but no way in hell should he be starting on the second or third line as a center when he comes back.

Give him until the rest of this season, see what he could do. He has only paid 12 games, so I hope he can get health fast, he is a great guy, guys on the team seem to really like him. He admitted to his poor season last year, I'd just want him to get back into the line-up soon, and give it one shot. Because if he comes back, and no improvements. I think the writing is on the wall for him, and he would know it too.

I'm not the biggest Gomez fan, but I don't understand some of you. He had a pretty decent 1st season. He had a miserable 2nd season (as did a few other players). He's been injured all year. And you want to put him in the minors?

Let him play and lets see what he can do. He is still valuable to this team.

Two years ago he was second on our team in scoring and 3rd in the playoffs. You know, the year we went to the Conference finals?

Yeah, he wasn't even trying..

at this point i dont care if he comes back and produces 60 points...but most likely the most we'll see out of him is 50
his salary is going to stop us from resigning certain players...
his salary is the difference between resigning AK and maybe Moen or they're replacements.

we have 17M in cap space next year and all of it is going to our RFAs...
even without kabarles contract had PG not trade for him, we'd still be in cap trouble...

Gomez MUST GO.... whether we burry him in the ahl and save 7M or buy him out and save 5M, we need that extra cap space

The cap hit is still a post-June-15th issue, however. The saved cap space doesn't do anything for us today.

Gomez gets a chance for now. What he does with that chance determines whether or not he gets another chance in the post-June-15th world.

If he wants a chance, I say he should have to earn it in practice. Blunden, Darche, and Nokelainen have been a solid 4th line (the best we've had in awhile), so he'd need to prove he deserves to play over them.

In no way, does he deserve a Top-9 spot though.

We've got no choice...as a bottom 6 forward.

Maybe the coaching change will be good for him. As much as I hate his contract, people have been bashing him while he was injured, not fair IMO.

If he can have a strong second half, maybe, just maybe, he could increase his value somewhat and be appealing for a team looking to get to the cap floor (7.25 cap hit / 5.5 actual salary). Hoping for the best, of course.

Well, he'll obviously get played when healthy, but it's hard to prove yourself on the 4th line. For him to get a chance, he needs stronger wingers. Problem being, how can you justify playing him over our top 9 guys.

Of course he gets another chance, but he starts on the 4th line and has to work his way into the top 9. No more freebies. Perhaps we can fit him on the 2nd pp unit and give him some pk action as well. Gomez darche and White could be a good, defensively responsible line.

Even with Gomez at his worst, we're a better team. If he finds his game, then we're a much better team. So unless you support a tank, which is somewhat understandable, then the only reason to be concerned is that he'll take icetime away from guys like Eller. But I think Cunneyworth will make him earn his time. Hopefully.
