As I mentioned though, we might have the opportunity to recall Endras from HIFK where he's on loan. He was brought in as insurance for Harding, and should be capable of performing backup duties.
replies like this and the earlier one ... make this site far more enjoyable than the "ugly town" "wtf" "no!" comments ...

appreciate the thought and effort here!

if he was unavailable we could consider reimer or gustavsson as backup going back and take out the conditional for harding !

Stop with the goalie proposals..

Reimer has a .935 even strength save %
Gustavsson just got a shutout and has a .901 save % overall
Rynnas just had 2 consecutive shutouts
Owuya has a .929 sv% in the ECHL.

YES OBVIOUSLY WE NEED MORE GOALIES LETS TRADE ROSTER PLAYERS.

OH AND APPARENTLY WE'RE SCOUTING PHILLY's SWEDE GOALIE THEY LET GO OF TO GET BRYZ.

It's not often that I find a Leafs proposal that is bad for the Leafs, but this one is, unless you consider the injuries. I am a HUGE fan of Liles and I think he is being grossly undervalued here.

This,

Leafs goalis are fine. Every goalie in the NHL gives up soft goals once in a while, not just Reimer. Leafs have bigger needs than goaltending. For a start, how about some role-players that are good penalty killers...or a ass. coach who has a clue when it comes to PK.

Unfortunately, 1) the whole game isn't played at even strength and his pk sv% is probably .750 at best ... 2) .901 is FAR below average 3/4) ryannas and owuya aren't nhl goalies atm ... 5) hardings overall sv% is .935 overall (not just even strength) ... so he would be an absolute upgrade over any goaltender the leafs have!

Reimer had just as good #s as Harding last year through the first few games, he was like .943 after 12 games or so..

We don't need a goalie, the Leafs need to play better D in FRONT of the goalie. Half the time they don't know what it means to block a shot and are caught half way between unsuccessful attempt at blocking the shot and screening the goalie which results in a goal.

I'm fine with all the goaltending prospects we have and continue to sign. Reimer is 23 years old, and I don't expect him to play like Carey Price, he'll be fine once he finds that consistency.

the leafs goalies ARENT fine ... :S ... and the softies on this team are FAR more frequent than "once in a while" ... this trade ALSO addresses the role playing pk'er ...

The point of a back up is to rest the starting goaltender. Who knows the quality of opponents he faces in the West? The East has a lot of talented forwards whereas the West has more defensive studs. It's difficult to just switch systems and conferences and expect Harding to have good stats with the Leafs.

Ok so the PK is the problem. Take out Reimer, put in Harding, what do you think will happen? Especially when you take one of our better defensive centers away from the lineup. Gustavsson's numbers are perfectly fine for a back-up and when you consider how trash our PK has been those numbers are probably lying to you. The minor league goalies success does matter because they're both under 25 years old and look like they could make an impact on the Leafs roster in the future. Rynnas, Scrivens and Owuya all are having good seasons, why would we add a 6th goalie to the stockpile while giving up good players to do so? It makes no sense.

The issue is the PK plain and simple.

It is a system issue, not a player issue. Even Wilson has admitted that they might be overthinking the Penalty Kill. If you're targeting anyone on the Wild why not Brodziak or Gillies?

Fair enough. I don't think Harding would be a significant upgrade over Reimer/Monster. I think Reimer is a fine young goalie who is in a little sophmore slump (numerous players go threw that).

In general, I think Leafs fans are very impatient when it comes to goaltending. Blaming them alot when they lose. IMO, Leafs have bigger needs that goaltending.

Leafs have a history of ''panic moves'' when it comes to goalies: Rask/Raycroft, Toskala. I'm a Habs fan, if Toronto wants to pull another trade for a quick fix at the goaltending position, be my guest.
