i was on Ocean Parkway walking towards Kings Highway from Avenue W lol he was going the opposite way. but yeah it was real good stuff. wish i coulda spoken to the guy haha
I live pretty close to Kings Highway and Ocean Parkway and no one fist pumped about the Rangers to me.
This is a great Thread. I live in northern NJ, about 40 miles from NYC. My town is pretty small and lately, I've noticed that in my highschool, the Ranger pride has really risen. It started last year in like March, and ever since, has grown more and more. It's awesome. Now, since we're awesome and people know that I'm a huge Rangers fan and watch every game, people always ask me about players, games, etc. 24/7 really helps people learn about teams. There are still a lot of Devils fans in our school, as many of my friends are devils fans. But I think that will change as we rise up and the Devils continue to fall to a mediocre team with goalie issues
Thursday night game, after the holidays have passed, and they are playing the Panthers. Yet, MSG was packed nearly full tonight, and not a "Fake sellout". Even most of the lower seats were filled up.
Plus, there were a lot of very obvious "one game a season" fans in my section. All the STHs in my section, you rarely see them buying food/beer, getting up a million times, etc. But these "night out on the town with the boys" groups are as annoying as fark, and they were out in force tonight.

Quoted for truth, 3 guys standing no more than 5'2 but had 6'4 beer muscles, screaming utter nonsense all game in section 427..as well as plenty other first timers..

Had a group like that in my section. Very 'verbal' about their fandom of this team. Yet, im sure if i started talking to them about names like Valentenko, Fasth, or Fogarty, i would get blank stares in return.
Plus the fat mess that was part of the group next to me had so many beers in the 1st period alone, he could do nothing but pushed or burps between his struggled breathing.
I could really do without these people in my section.
I live in Orange County New York- I feel like I live way out west when it comes to the Rangers - Modells has nothing, and I see no one in Rangers gear - Hate it- Have TWC so had to go to a bar to watch last Wed.'s game- Made a bunch of phone calls to see who would carry the game- most of the responses were "huh? Rangers? what channel?" grrrrrrr - so had to go to a restaurant bar- the only one I could find w/ direct tv- no one cared about the game - wouldn't put the volume on, etc.......Hope it gets better- I am loving reading the stories here - at least I have hope!
This is my first post (yay me!) I promise I am not coming out of the woodwork- I found this board by trying to find info about the TWC mess - Love it-(the board) so at least 1 thing came out of the mess for me
I think I'm starting to see it more as well. I'm just curious as to what the Rangers have to do to get any sort of nod in the papers. Winter Classic the perfect opportunity and nothing happened. I don't always pick up a paper but when I'm waiting in line at a bodega I'll always check the front and back page of every paper. It would be great exposure for the team especially for the casual fan.
It's something I've thought about recently, and I know it's a tough market with so many pro teams, but I wish NY was a bigger hockey town. Hopefully with the way they're playing it'll pick up. I went to the Flying Puck for the Winter Classic and to tell you the truth, wasn't expecting much, but that place was packed out. Would love to see that all around the city.

Everybody around here cheers for the B's , Habs or Leafs . I know a lot of hockey fans and I only know of 5 other Ranger fans . At least these days I get some positive comments when I visit the coffee shop in the AM . LOL...and then again I have provided them with lots of info on my Facebook page with the pics of Richards HOT new girlfriend and the scantily clad Paulina Gretzky twitter pics , Prust's girlfriend pics and the women that scorned Avery . They also enjoyed the HBO stuff which gave them an in depth look at the Rangers which we would never get around here because it's all about the Leafs and Habs and Bruins . GO RANGERS !!!!!
I was 29 years old when the Rangers Won the Cup in 1994 and not yet married so I went to MSG almost every night for the last 2 playoff series and if I didn,t have a ticket I just went to Charley O,s or the Blarney Stone as it was insane in NYC. All of the Bars were so packed that spring and the City went Wild. The Parade was held on a very warm day and Manhattan was crazy. I am only hoping that some of our young fans can experience something similiar to 1994

I'm also in OC, the Newburgh-Cornwall area, and I admit I have definitely seen a difference when it comes to the Rangers. Facebook was blowing up during the Winter Classic and most people who normally don't watch hockey are now watching the Rangers or at least talking about them. If the Rangers win a cup it will be HUGE. Just like in Boston with the Bruins. Everybody is crazy about hockey in New England now.
I was at the PBR tonight at MSG and there was a guy in a Rangers jersey. There was also a 'Potvin sucks' chant that I'm pretty sure wasn't started by him. Fourth year in a row going to this event and that's the first time I heard it happen.
its great to see NY doing well, but honestly I don't give a rats ass about what bandwagon fans think
when the Islanders won 4 cups in a row the place was sold out and rocking. Looking back on it most of them were the worst sort of bandwagoners
NY could finish in last place and I would steel be a rangers fan... oh wait thats Pittsburgh's job to finish last overall and throw games so they can stock their team with lottery picks. Come to think of it that was the Devils job too, now its the Islanders LOL
Would love to see the NYR fan base grow, although I'll be dreading the day when prices raise dramatically for all our merchandise and the bandwagoners come on board
Its past the New Year, so do not tell me it is too early to start judging what kind of team we have here....and disclaimer: this is all under the condition IF WE PLAY THE WE HAVE THUS FAR...
Don't get me wrong, I know there are PLENTY of huge Rangers fans out there. I also know there are plenty of die hard Yankee fans out there, so don't get me wrong. But this is New York, and it houses multiple teams in each sport, so there are a lot of people out there to have buy your hat.
This thread isn't one about how good we are. But I know this is a good team that is going to make a run. We're a really good team, with a really good head coach, who had a really good idea about how to build a hockey team, and then he and Slats did it. We're good, and were gonna be around.
Watch this Ranger team make some sort of run into the playoffs or finish with a really good record. The Rangers will BLOW UP. You will see Rangers left and right. You walk on the streets of Manhattan today, you aren't seeing a lot of Ranger stuff left and right...its pretty rare. You see Jets/Giants, Yankees/Mets, and Knicks. Rangers is rare.
I go to Indiana University which houses a lot of kids from Illinois. Wherever you go, there is a Patrick Kane jersey. It is unreal. They are that cities favorite team. Why? Because they won.
This city will be ALL NEW YORK RANGERS if this team continues to play this way. You're gonna start seeing people come out of the woodwork left and right. I was 2 and a half in 94 so I don't remember anything, I have no idea what it was like, but I know it'll be a lot different than the world I grew up in with 7 years of no playoffs and then a lockout that really hurt the NHL's popularity.
And i'm gonna be honest, i'm really hoping to see it. Go Rangers, and take pride in knowing that you are True Blue.
the rangers have always had a huge amount of fans and i don't think no one is coming out of the woodwork as much as you are realizing how many of us there are.
ranger fans are some of the most loyal fans on the planet and even when we stink people still show up for them.
i hate to even say something like you suggest because it comes accross like it implies we have a fan base like the debbies or fishsticks which are not even in the same stratosphere as the rangers when it comes to the numbers of fans this team has.
we are not one of the richest teams in the game because we have fair weather fans and the folks in illinois that you speak of do not suprise me either because that is all i would ever expect from any origianal 6 franchise fan base.

Lol funny that you mention that because i was in 427 too and part of that crew was sitting right near me. They must have had like 2 beers and were off their ass drunk. I was hoping the one sitting in the front row would fall over the railing.
