Just got back from the game. Danny B. played great, though Voracek had a very strong game as well.

Bourdon was god awful. But good to see Bryz have a strong game.

Voracek and JVR looked immense again today. Great play. I actually thought that Briere was bad outside of scoring the goals. I know that sounds completely ********, but he had quite a few bad shifts.

4th line was great again, sucks one of Rinaldo/Dirty Harry has to sit when Jagr comes back. Rinaldo took one more shift than Zolnierczyk today FWIW.

Bourdon has been pretty damn bad lately.

does anybody else look at waiving walker as maybe a prelude to a trade? making some cap room for another defensman? i was thinking that almostlosing kimmo may have made homer want to make a move for a quality dman

Bourdon is a rookie, he is gonna have bad games. For the most part he has been solid.

He still should be in the minors learning. When he feels any pressure he tends to cough it up or make a rookie mistake. Not a knock just a fact. He is only what 22?

Seriously?! Bourdon has been pretty damn consistent on that third pairing, 20 games played, 15 mins per game, even +/- (******** stat, but still) and hardly a game where you go 'oh ****, Bourdon is on the ice. Tonight was probably his worst so far.

Marshall and Walker scare me senseless each time they are on the ice, and Lilja does not instill any confidence at all.

Lilja plays 12-13 mins per game, Walker 10, Marshall under 9, and still all three have managed to make mistakes galore in those few minutes they do.

You can't do anything in the NHL with your sixth D-man playing ~8-12 mins with no special team play from them whatsoever.

Look at the best teams in the league... sixth D plays 14-16ish mins, McQuaid in Boston, Alberts in Vancouver, O'Donnell in Chicago, Kindl in Detroit, Cole/Russell in St. Louis, White/Demers/Braun in San Jose, Engeland and Despres in Pitt.

Only Eminger on NYR has less than 14 mins as a sixth D on a team that looks like they can go far in the playoffs.

How many team in the playoff picture have a 6th D on below 13 mins? Us, Florida , Washington (but arguably Erskine is their 7th guy.) No-one else.

Hence why I'd like Gus back to hopefully put in 16-17 mins a game.

Bourdon is our 6th best D man IMO, at this moment, and has done damn well for a rookie everyone thought was never going to make the NHL>

Timonen
>>
Coburn
> Mez=Carle
>>
Gustafsson
>Bourdon
>Lilja
>>> The others

Marshall and Walker should not be on our blueline. Was hoping Lilja would be a good 6th D, but apart from a few games he has been god awful, O'Donnell was twice as good as him.

Flyers had to have had at least 15 turnovers in the 1st and 2nd periods. Briere had one of the most unimpressive hat tricks I've ever seen. Voracek, Coturier and JVR all stepped it up.

Good game for Bryz to build on. He seemed to be a lot more aware of the top of the net. When he's patient he's a fairly imposing figure in the crease.

The issue is that Bourdon should be paired with someone more reliable than Carle and he shouldn't be in the game for key shifts. He somehow got OT time today which really scares me.

Any news on Jagr? We could really use him on that PP tomorrow.

Also why does the team like to take dumb penalties? I got really upset when Talbot throw away a 2 minute 5-3 just so he could attempt to hit back the guy.

jj said that jagr skated with the team and is possible for tomorrows game. i said the same thing about talbot with the slash on filpala. we still scored in that pp but it wasn't the smartest thing getting a retaliation penalty after that late hit.

They don't really have any other options though. I thought Marshall was pretty bad when he was up with the Flyers.

Yea, Marshall was not ready for the NHL level of play.

I think a few people are being overly critical of Bourdon. You have to realize that rookies are going to make "rookie mistakes" sometimes....Couturier and Schenn have made horrendous turnovers at times, but by and large, they get a pass. And they should. Why? Well, if you're going to play rookies, you have to be willing to live with some bonehead plays as these guys acclimate. Ideally, the Flyers would have a healthy Pronger and Gus continuing to develop his NHL level game but **** happens. The thing about Bourdon though, imo, is that, despite a few visible mistakes, he makes some very heady plays at times...I've seen several times where he's been able to handle a pressure situation in his own zone with poise and skill. He's a strong dude with a little size and plays with a physical edge, which is a big plus. I am perhaps most impressed with his ability to stand up and challenge opponents physically, as they come across the blueline. The other night he scuttled a dangerous looking attack by Toews, angling him off to the boards with a strong stick and then bodied him off the puck for a Flyer to take posession. He did it again tonight (forget against who)...both of those plays were very effective and to me, really impressive because that kind of play is usually the stuff of solid NHL defensemen. Bourdon's offensive game hasn't blossomed in the NHL yet but he has shown some good ability to transition and join the play in the attack zone and doesn't look terrible on the pp when he get's a sniff of it.

With what I'm seeing him do at both ends of the ice, rookie growing pains notwithstanding, I think Bourdon has the tools and real potential as a top four dman in this league. The experience he's getting now should pay dividends later.

i cut MAB much more slack then say Carle..

as a rookie you have to expect brain farts from him in pressure situations from time to time.

but Carle makes a career out of it.

If Marc-Andre Bourdon is going to learn how to play at this level, he's going to have to see the ice time. That includes overtime. He has earned himself opportunities. Especially if Kimmo is gong to go ahead and play the rest of the season with a broken wrist.

Briere getting in a fight might have been worth the whole price.

What are you talking about? I'm pretty sure the x-rays came back negative?

He's fine now...
