Rangers Prospect Poll: #2

Chris Kreider easily won round 1 and Michael St. Croix is easily the guy everyone wants to add.

Please write who you want added to the poll, and give a reason for it. This makes the discussion here more lively.

THE RULES

WHO IS A PROSPECT: We can't all have different standards based on what we each want personally. We are on the HF board, so let's follow their rules. The standard for what's a prospect is here: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect

* Please don't write that so-and-so should or should not be a prospect. It's not up to each individual here to decide, it's up to the HF rules.

HOW TO RANK PROSPECTS: Based on their value in a hypothetical trade or waiver draft. This takes into consideration a prospect's ceiling, how close he's to making it, his health, work ethic, the whole deal. Imagine there was a prospect waiver draft and you could keep only one prospect. That guy is our #1 prospect. Then imagine we had one more waiver protection. That guy is our #2 prospect.

TOP PROSPECTS

1. LW Chris Kreider

Chris Kreider

Born Apr 30 1991 -- Boxford, MA

Voted for Tim Erixon. Not even close. I considered him as very close to Kreider. He's less risky, but without the same upside. Nevertheless, his upside is still that of a first pairing defenseman. The only reason Kreider blew him out last round is that he's flashier.

It's unbelievable that a 20-year-old, defense-first blueliner has been scoring at a point per game in the AHL.

Add Fasth. But for his injury and the brief slowdown right before that, he'd have been regarded as a top prospect right now.

Erixon.

Fasth should have already been an option.

Was never that big a fan of Werek's anyway. Was surprised to see Calgary take him for Erixon, although I suppose that's what you get when a guy forces his way out of your organization. Feel bad for Calgary, but their loss is the Rangers' gain... That being said, Erixon easily. I know it was near-unanimous for 1st, but I can't help but feel Kreider is going to be a disappointment or traded (which will spark a riot here), but a guy like Miller or Fasth is going to soften that blow by a LOT.

And I don't think I need to state who needs to be added.

Edit: I'll also add that I'd be extremely happy to eat a nice plate of crow on Kreider, and he hits the NHL and tells all his critics where to shove it. I'll be right here to admit I was wrong if he does, and I really do hope he pans out, even if it's not for the Rangers.

Hopefully Jesper's injury isn't too bad and he can continue to excel in Sweden. On the Kreider thing, not sure why everyone's so down on him. A 65-80 maximum and potential first liner is still realistic. Patience.

We traded Werek to Phoenix for Lindberg. We got Erixon for two second rounders and Roman Horak.

That's why everyone is "down" on him. Some of us don't see the PPG player in Kreider that other's apparently are. I keep seeing expectations for him are a near PPG, 1st-line W. I see him as a 60-65 point 1st-2nd line tweener with a motor. Nothing terrible, but not a "can't-miss" future perennial NHL All-Star. Guys are expecting him to become the next Corey Perry/Zach Parise 80-point defensive forward, and that's just not reasonable. Erixon looks very much like a future 1st-pair star, and is doing so in the AHL. Kreider is struggling (given his hype) to really distinguish himself in the collegiate ranks.

Politely rescinded. Brain fart on my part. Wasn't really thrilled about either prospect, for what it's worth. I knew the 2 2nds went with the prospect for Erixon, just mixed up which one went where for whom.

I'd take 65 points from Kreider and run. That would make him the second highest scorer on our team just most years. How much would you love to have that scoring added to this team right now?

65 points is great, especially for a pick in his spot (19th, correct?). But I think his hype machine is generating too many fans dreaming of this kid being an 80-point player in his prime. I'd expect consistent seasons between 55-65 points in his prime, and while that's good production, is well short of what some expectations seem to be getting to be around here.

Yeah. Some people here seem to think he will be a 50 goal scorer. If the kid could consistently put 20 goals a year up I would be thrilled.
