- Added talent which includes Richards, Biron and some younger guys like Hagelin. This has provided balance, depth and scoring. Biron has certainly kept Lundqvist extra fresh.

- The younger guys like Stepan, Anisimov, Dubinsky,Del Zotto, McDonagh all maturing and finding their roles within the club.

- Chemistry because a lot of these guys have grown together.

- Coaching and the system. The coach keeps these guys full of passion and honest. Nobody is given a pass and everybody has each others back, especially defensively. This has lead to some championship caliber defense this team has played. Both in the defensive zone and Neutral zone. The other piece to the puzzle has been the all so important forecheck game. We have the right players to play a relentless forecheck game.

Apparently, if I disagree with wanting to fire/trade everyone, I'm a mindless sheep. Or if I disagree with an opinion, I'm somehow Dan Tencer's waterboy. You guys don't seem to be like that.

Heck, I even have a Rangers jersey hanging on my wall. I've liked them since the lockout and I'm really happy to see them doing so well. I usually cheer for you guys during the playoffs (especially against the Caps and against the Penguins during their cup run)

Are Ranger fans that common in EDM? My dad was born there and he grew up watching both the Rangers and Oilers. (Jumped to Rangers bandwagon after Messier trade)

We became the 1# ranked team in the league, and then we got Staal back. And then Dubi showed up.

Good times are ahead.

Another reason...

Watch the finale of 24/7 as an example.

I believe we get into other teams' heads, the way we play. A team that never quits, comes at you, and plays stingy defense and attention to detail. And it gets under the opposition's skin.

Philly was too occupied on who they wanted to fight next, and who they wanted to trash talk to. Rangers just flicked them off and came hard at them with three unanswered goals.

And id imagine that's how it is every night.

This team is not intimidated by anyone, they don't back down from anyone, and they never quit.

Oh, and they're pure class off the ice.

1) Lundqvist is boss
2) We have defense first system. You hear Torts says it repeatedly in 24 / 7. Something like "handle our own zone first" which in turn makes Lundqvist's job all the more easier. It is that system I believe that has allowed for so many call-ups to thrive and keep our depleted blue line from staying strong. Who thought we'd be so stable Staal, Sauer, and even Eminger out? I will also lump points 1+2 together to mention our PK has been tops in the league. Our forwards backcheck because if they mess up their coverage too much, they know they'll see less ice time, leading to...
3) Accountability, which I will lump in with coaching.
4) Commitment + Winning 1-on-1 battles. on the boards, to loose pucks, hustle on backchecks, etc. we are already playing like it's the playoffs, blocking shots, doing whatever it takes to win games, extra hustle.
5) Leadership - if Callahan leads by example, he exemplifies many of the above qualities of commitment, hustle, sacrifice, etc. That trickles down to everyone else solidifying all the parts making them stronger. Everyone works harder, sticks up for each other, have faith in their coach and teammates, etc.
6) Gaborik is having a good season.
7) The Richards influence. younger players like Del Zotto have benefited. Gaborik isn't vocal enough to have that sort of veteran influence.
8) Lundqvist is boss.

It's like that with any team that's number 1. There's always that psychological side of things. Where teams begin to fear us b/c of our style, sometimes respect us more then they should etc.

Maturity.

Every player thats stepping up on this team, mainly the rookies, 2nd and 3rd year players - as well as leaders like Girardi, Lundqvist, Gaborik and Callahan have all taken a huge step each year in their maturity and this year its clicked in. Dealing with adversity, staying the course, sticking with the game plan - all of that. Richards and Rupp have helped the room even more.

And coaching has a lot to do with this young team becoming mature & confident and you have to keep that in mind.

Uh, because you're a Devils fan?

Wouldn't you wonder if a prominent Rangers poster had Marty in his profile pic?

Agree. the vets like Richie and Rupper help. Theyre all very responsible players and our agitators really help us, to be tough gritty and feared. Our scoring and playmaking, winning battles helps a lot too. guys like Callahan Dubinsky and Anisimov are also a core build
They arent kids anymore, but men

If the question is one of what makes this team different than last years, the answer lies right here.

Depth
Depth
Depth
Depth
Depth*

*also, a lack of significant injuries amongst the forwards

Usually when the Rangers are doing well I feel like they're tightrope walking. This year I just feel like everything is really starting to gel together.
