Buffalo-Nashville

Just wondering if something around Stafford-Wilson would work, and what would Buffalo have to add if anything?

No thx, that would be one step back one step forward. Wilson is probably the least likely to be traded imo

It would only make sense to trade wilson if we were getting a substantial upgrade coming back, like Ryan or Getzlaf

Wilson is coming into his own this season. He is a physical force on the ice, and he knows how to get the puck in the net or on someone's stick so that they can. Stafford is a good player, but I think Wilson is a better piece for Nashville. I agree that if Wilson is going to be traded it would make more sense to add something to the deal for a player at the next level.

I read awhile back that Trotz and Poile have both individually stated that Wilson is the future of the Predators. That being said I don't think he is going anywhere, but I have heard rumors.. He was even mentioned on 303:30. It could happen, but I hope not Wilson is awesome.IMO

Wilson has arguably been our best forward since he got put on a line with Spaling and Tootoo. I don't think we'll move him unless we can get something really big for him. Stafford is not it.

Wilson looked great last night, patience with the puck, creating opportunities.. didn't translate on the scoresheet.. but the intangibles were there.

Rumors say Derek Roy is available. Are we interested? He makes $4.5M this year and $5.5 next year.

He is a centerman so either Fisher/Legwand shifts to wing or gets bumped to the 3rd line.

I think he'd be a great fit, but downside is his salary and likely the asking price from Buffalo. Supposedly they want high end forwards going back.

not happening. we also dont need centers.. legwand, fisher, spaling, smithson..

wilson is now a winger.. and wasnt smith a center? we need a dynamic winger..

and we can't give up high end forwards.. if thats what they want. that would mean wilson im guessing.

Agree that we have an influx of centers, but it raises the question, are we ever going to be a great team with guys like Fisher and Legwand as our #1 and 2? I know Roy isn't a perfect fit, so we probably pass, but guys like him don't go on the trade block too often. Just a thought

I've had the same thought. my answer is no.. we can't be a great team with our lineup down the middle. something has to change. but its what we have for now and got to roll with it..

roy isn't much better than legwand or fisher. he isn't as good defensively and the marginal upgrade in points I do not think would offset the d play or the assets to aquire him. Have to remember too, he plays with vanek. he wouldn't have a guy like that here

We absolutely need a center. Smithson is the team's weakest link.

Maybe this will better illustrate what I'm talking about. These are our lines from the first period last night, with their projected point totals for the season (excluding Bourque due to small sample size):

Wilson (48)-Legwand (53)-Hornqvist (36)
Kostitsyn (41)-Fisher (43)-Erat (56)
Bourque-Spaling (28)-Tootoo (39)
Halischuk (24)-Smithson (8)-Smith (52)

If you replace Smithson with a competent center like Vermette, Brassard, Langkow, or even Moore or Stoll, that's a huge shot in the arm for our offense, and it gives us the ability to roll four lines that can do a little of everything. That makes us insanely tough to play against.

I'd love to get Perry or Iginla or even Ryan, but the reality is that, if the realignment proposal is truly dead, those guys aren't coming our way. Neither of those clubs is going to want to play against those guys four times a year. If they get moved, they're almost surely going to the East. A more unsung guy like Prospal would be a much easier and much more realistic acquisition.

Funny people always talk about how Trotz system kills the productions of wingers when really, his defensive system is based around the centers not the wingers, this is why Arnott didn't really fit in here. Getting a totally offensive minded center is just a square peg in a round hole, it doesn't fit, IMHO.
