Also, this isn't really clearing any roster slots for the Ducks. Smaby was on IR since the preseason and has to clear to be sent to the AHL. Gordon is likely being cleared because they either A) Want to bring up one of their AHLers over him (Kyle Palmieri, Brandon McMillan, Peter Holland) or B) Are getting Mark Fraser back from his conditioning stint in the AHL C)It could also have something to do with the WJHC ending and Devante Smith-Pelly being "officially" back on the roster.

My thoughts exactly.
I was so glad to see the kid get a chance in Anaheim.

I don't think anyone will claim Gordon. He has a 1 way contract next year.

Gordon simply doesn't have at it takes to be an NHL player. He isn't bad, and he's a great 13th forward which is why I'm surprised hes been waived, but Beleskey and him are similar players and Beleskey is on 1 way deal.

Also Gordon is being sent down for performance IMO, he reminds me of basically a slightly bigger Dan Sexton, not a bottom 6 type player, but not good enough for the top 6.
Does DSP have to hit the actual roster before he can be assigned to IR though? Or can he pass straight through?

That's very true, could explain why Gordon has been sent down if DSP has to be put back on the roster first, well that and Gordon is pretty useless for us

If Gordon gets claimed off waivers does he report to the AHL or stay in the NHL

He'd stay in the NHL. IIRC a team wanting to send him to the AHL would have to put him back on waivers - but that's just my presumed guess, and you would be advised to consult a CBA expert on the matter. There should be a thread on that sort of thing in the Business Of Hockey stickies.

I think Gordon has pretty clearly failed his NHL audition at this point. A fine AHL player and depth forward, but not much more. But he doesn't have the size or nastiness to be a bruiser and 7 points in 48 games is simply not enough production to be in any other role. It's a shame, since I always liked him.

Good luck in Syracuse, Gordo!

Gordon is on waivers on his way to the AHL because he's a dime a dozen fringe player. Too good for the minors, not effective enough to stay in the NHL.

This sadly. I really wanted Gordon to succeed, he works his ass off every night, he just doesnt have enough skill for a Top 6 role, or enough size/defense for the bottom six.

Sad to see Gordo get waived. Been a fan since training camp. Gives it his all and seems like a real likable guy.

Matt Walker also on waivers

RT @BroadStHockey: How good is Matt Walker at hockey? As the 7th defenseman, he gets waived when a defenseman gets hurt.

Since this is the first year I've actually been able to keep track of all the waivers this season, I got curious as to how many genuinely useful players there have been on waivers this season. So, I put them together in a spreadsheet with their numbers.

Stastically, the best players on waivers this season are

Games Played
1. Dale Weise, 41 GP since being claimed by VAN from NYR
2. Ryan Carter, 38 GP split between FLA (Who waived him) and NJ
2. Blake Comeau, 38 GP split between NYI (Who waived him) and CGY
4. Nick Johnson, 37 GP since being claimed by MIN from PIT
5. Andrew Gordon, 36 GP before being waived by ANA

Goals
1. Eric Nystrom, 12 goals with Dallas after a trade, after being waived twice
2. Tim Stapleton, 6 goals with Winnipeg after being waived once by them
3. Joey Crabb, 6 goals with Toronto after being waived once by them
4. Niklas Hagman, 6 goals split between Calgary and Anaheim (After being claimed on re-entry waivers)
5. Nick Johnson, 4 goals

Assists
1. Nick Johnson, 10 assists
2. Kyle Chipchura, 7 assists with Phoenix after being waived once by them
3. Tim Stapleton, 6 assists
3. Joey Crabb, 6 assists
3. Nilkas Hagman, 6 assists
3. John Mitchell, 6 assists with NYR after being waived once by them
3. Matt Beleskey, 6 assists with ANA after being waived once by them

Points
1. Eric Nystrom, 14 points
2. Nick Johnson, 14 points
3. Tim Stapleton, 12 points
3. Joey Crabb, 12 points
3. Niklas Hagman, 12 points

+/-
1. John Mitchell, +9 with NYR after being waived once by them
2. Zach Hamill, +6 with BOS after being waived once by them
3. Nick Johnson, +5
4. Alex Picard, +4 with PIT after being waived once by them
4. David Van Der Gulik, +4 with COL after being waived once by them
4. Stu Bickel, +4 with NYR after being waived once by them

PIM
1. Dale Weise, 60 PIM
2. Brian McGrattan, 56 PIM with NAS after being claimed from ANA
3. Ryan Carter, 49 PIM
4. Matt Beleskey, 43 PIM
5. Cody Bass, 32 PIM with CLB after being waived once by them

(BTW, Matt Walker, Mark Cullen and Sean Avery have each been waived 3 times, which is the most in the NHL this season).

Dale Weise hasn't been bad at all (not a lot of Canucks fans will say it though).

With him being the only fighter in the lineup Canucks fans get mad because he isn't a great fighter. But he has been hitting well, and a good energy guy and has some upside to become a decent bottom 6 guy.

The 4th line was very solid when it was Weise Lapierre Volpatti.

I would like to see Weise get some time in the minors but he will likely be a full time NHL'er in his career.

Parros pulled his groin so they needed him in the lineup.

No they probably just wanted to see if anyone would claim him. Bruce doesn't seem to like Gordo for some reason but after watching Gordon for years in Hershey I can tell you that he is a great guy, fan favorite, a great teammate, and he will give it his all every single game.

Florida assigned Bill Thomas to San Antonio, so he cleared.

As for Gordon, now that he has cleared waivers, he can be assigned to the AHL within a certain time window (I'm blanking on how many days, might be 30) without having to go through waivers again.

The Devils place Tim Sestito on waivers today:

http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/f...to_on_waivers/

Quote:
The Devils have placed center Tim Sestito on waivers.

Because Sestito was placed on waivers on a Sunday, he would not clear waivers until noon on Tuesday. If he is not claimed by another team before then, he would be eligible to be sent down to Albany of the AHL.
