Say what you will about this team, but it has talent. Look at 09-10 and the second half of last year for evidence of that. I think they'd certainly be able to be a top-4 team next year if they trimmed the fat and retooled with a big name or two and some young, hungry players.

Firing the coach would be a great first step, just as the Flyers fired the well-respected Ken Hitchcock.

Philly has certain selling points that Buffalo does not have, so attracting similar quality players may be more difficult.

Still, allowing Darcy to engineer a rebuild would be RIDICULOUS.

And before you point to the '05-'07 teams, do recognize that Darcy literally lucked into a rule change that just happened to benefit the team he had. Expecting lightning to strike twice with this guy is crazy.

Rebuild? Start by getting rid of Roy, Stafford, Gaustad, Hecht, Leopold, Sekera and Darcy.

The munchkins are a concern as well. On some level I like Gerbe & Ennis, but their size is quite a problem..unless you think either is a Briere or Ginota or St. Louis in the making.

The UFA pool this year isn't near the level it was that year.

Not to mention we'd have to enter a whole new level of suck to get a first overall.

It's similar in that it appears the wheels are falling off quite rapidly. However, a full rebuild, IMHO, it a 2 year project that would have to start this summer.

Isn't that the year Holmgren took over as GM too?

Also that's when the Swords so graciously gave them Danny Briere for ****ing nothing.

There can't be a rebuild like those Flyers unless there's another team that will also be so generous as to give the Sabres a first line center for free, as well. And we all know the odds of that happening. :

On an unrelated front, there should be an "insane laughter" smiley. You know, the cackling laugh of someone who's completely lost it.

Why? I can see the arguments for the rest of them.

Why sekera?

And you definitely underestimate Ennis. Gerbe is a 3rd liner maybe a second liner one day. But Ennis has a unbelievable skill set combined with speed. Great set of hands on that kid. A little more experience and when he gets a chance to fill out he'll be a dynamite player.

Buffalo has a great attraction - proximity to the Toronto market (i.e. "home" for 25% of the canadian population), while keeping US tax rates..

I'm not sure if that still flies with today's economy. I'm certain that the Canadian dollar is actually worth more than the US dollar right now, and I can't imagine that the US taxes are easier on citizens then Canadian taxes are on their people.

Trade Roy, Stafford, Boyes, and Miller and you would receive an immense amount of futures. Add in a top pick for this draft and the next and Buffalo would have a lot of young talent built around Myers and Vanek.

US dollar is worth $1.03 Canadian right now. And Canadian taxes are brutal.
