Yeah, the defence sucks, but look at the crazy contracts that guys like James Wisniewski got. A guy like Wisniewski would look great on the Oilers, but would also really screw them over when they have to sign Hall and Eberle next summer.
Why are they a bottom 5 team? Why is it that their best players by far who have produced this year are 20 and under and one old dude in Smyth?

Most people realize that the team at best was going to be fighting for a playoff spot for a while but the team is not in this state because they don't have james wisnewski.

There is one big huge white elepant in the room for the oilers that is hurting the team and has been taking up space on the couch for a long long time. The team needs to have the balls to find someway to remove the elephant or at least stick him in the garage until he leaves on his own.

Well with any team if you are going to in a hugely different direction with sweeping changes. You pretty much need the blessings of ownership to do so.

That's my point. They're just not good. What did you expect? Hemsky should be producing a lot more, but Renney has acknowledged that many times.

The only criticism I have is that I'd rather have Lander in OKC and O'Marra as the 4th line centre, but that still won't make them much better.

I think at this point "rebuilding" means "rebuilding our defence". Just compare what we have now to 08/09:

Souray -> Lost for nothing
Visnovsky -> Traded for Whitney, who has barely played
Gilbert
Grebeshkov -> Lost for nothing (at least nothing that helped the NHL team yet)
Smid
Staios -> Traded for nothing, but wasn't much of a loss to be fair

I'd actually be in favor of bringing Grebeshkov back if it's possible. He made the occasional boneheaded play, but he was mostly pretty solid and was a good puck mover.

bang on on all counts. I don't think he absolutely has to make playoffs next year, but he has to make moves that put the team near the playoffs at the very least. no significants moves, no significant improvement by December of this year = pink slip.

That was a terrible hour of radio. Who calls radio shows anyways? I don't like reading most peoples' opinions online, let alone on the radio. As Jim Rome says, "less of you, and more of me."

I liked hearing Tencer rip into himself.

have you ever been invloved with any type of corporate take over before. you always keep the management that is in place until you get a good chance to evaluate what they do and what needs to be done. then you figure out what needs to be fixed and what doesnt work. we should be getting to that stage within the next 6-15 months imo.

You mean like promoting the man who created this mess and hiring an unproven GM (a man who was passed over for the GM job by his former team) to facilitate a rebuild?

Five years until we can hold Lowe accountable for the ten years he screwed up this organization?
Five years till we are a good team, one who has goals beyond just making the playoffs. That's how I understood it, and that is the time table I am holding them too.
