Who gets the call?

Briere is likely facing a trip to IR. If this is the case, who do the Sabres call-up?

Even though Thorburn was here last, I really think the Sabres will reward Novotny.

I wouldn't mind taking a look at Novotny. So that would put how many rookies on the roster?

Miller
Pominville
Gaustad
Vanek

and the call-up...

If Briere and Dumont are both out of extended periods of time, Buffalo needs to pick up another top 6 foward. Pomniville is good, but, realistically, this team is going to struggle to produce consistent offense throughout the course of the season with this lineup. Sykora after the freeze might not be a bad pickup. For now maybe Paille or Manacari could use a visit to the bigs...

Recall reward situation perhaps, with a few guys getting a game or two here and there perhaps.

Novotny - to see if he can offer anything at all at the NHL level and help in evaluating whether they retain him this summer
Paetsch - because he deserves a reward and they could use a look at him to see if they have a replacement for Fitzie right in their midst
Thorburn - for what he brings in terms of toughness and ability
Mancari - another possible reward situation for a game and to measure how far he has come
Ryan - same as Novotny

i think they'll end up dressing Peters more while Briere is out. I think with the way the Sabres are rolling teams are going to want to get physical with Buffalo. Peters should get a string of games and throw some haymakers. call up Paetsch and get Rory out of the line up.

Paille's only played a handful of games this year and Ryan's currently hurt.

My call's on Novotny. If not now, when?

I'll say Thorburn. This team is taking on the "hardest working team in hockey" mentality and Thorburn seems to fit the bill. If Briere is out of the lineup for an extended period of time, we'll sooner or later struggle offensively and a guy like Novotny won't make up for it. Unless a deal is made, we'll have to grind out more wins with reliable goaltending, efficient scoring, and tenacity.

I don't get to see Amerks games, so I only have stats and you guys to go by.

I would like to see Novotny or Paetsch though.

Though I don't mind Thorburn at all. He's been adequate, to say the least, in the 2 games he's played here.

Yeah, I'd much rather see Paetsch to get rid of Fitzy...and if we only have one extra spot then I guess Peters is going to have to play...

Add me to the call up Paetsch list. The Sabres can expect to have one or more dmen dinged up most of the season. They really need to see what Paetsch can do at the NHL level, and he's earned the chance. Since Paetsch can also play forward, it's no problem dressing 7 dman with him on the roster.

Reading this makes me cry.
This is called **** in Rochester. Some fans are going to be livid. Not me... I realize the Amerks exist to serve Buffalo while making profits at the same time.
This year has been one of the worst years to be an Amerks fan though.
Tis hasn't beena good 50th anniversary for us!

I think Paetsch has more than deserved a call up, but I think Novotny (he's pretty hot now) will get the call.

I'd love to see what Paetsch can do, especially if he can play both defense and forward.

I definitely wouldn't be upset to see Thorburn or Mancari either. Imagine for the future - a 3rd line of Thorburn - Gaustad - Mancari. That would totally rock.

None of those three can displace Adam Mair at this point in time. Mair is just too good at what he does.

Mair could be on the 4th line. Arguably all 3 of the guys I listed (with the exception of maybe Thorburn) have better offensive production than Mair. I love Mair, but I think he's more of a 4th liner than a 3rd liner.

My bad -- I was seeing 3rd line and reading it as 4th line.
