I have seen most of Karpat games. Salomaki is Tuomo Ruutu lite as someone has said somewhere. He's not as physical yet as Tuomo but he makes less mistakes. He never gives up and wins most of the battles close to the boards. Very team oriented guy. I predict him to be a solid middle 6 player in the future.
Salomäki out for 6 weeks atleast with lacerated spleen.
Got hit 2 times in USA(2nd) game in stomach, later hit in same spot in Czechs(4th) game. Says he felt pain but playing made it disappear for a while. He experienced fainting and more pain in the stomach after bronze-medal game and finally after visiting doctor it was found out.

well, get better Miikka!
As bad as it is that he will be out 6 weeks this is an injury that once healed shouldnt have any lasting side effects
Well, since teams have begun loading up for the Memorial Cup, it might well just be time to update the prospects.
Cam Reid as an overager has scored 19 points in 14 games and is quickly rising up Portland's stat sheet. The Winterhawks are going to make the WHL playoffs and will be a high seed.
London is 1st in the OHL will be going to the OHL playoffs.
55 games: 22 goals, 31 assists tied for 29th in OHL for points was 63rd.
The Knights are leading the midwest division by a wide margin and lead the west conference by 8 pts over the Plymouth Whalers.
Josh Shalla.
Shalla's Saginaw Spirit are riding a rocket ship and a horseshoe up their ass and are now 6th in the western conference. Shalla 2nd on his team in scoring.
38 games: 29 goals, 25 assists tied for 27th in the OHL
David Elsner
In his first year of OHL play he has scored the following:
37 games: 7 goals, 5 assists
The soo Greyhounds aren't looking all that great and much like Saginaw most likely won't make the OHL playoffs. Currently 9th in the western conference.
First
Charles Olivier-Rousell
Going from Falling out from the Ads he goes right to the Q's penthouse by joining 2 time champ St. John's Sea Dogs. As a defenseman, he has scored.
Cam Reid has left St. Cloud for Portland of the WHL. As a Husky fan, this pisses me off to no end. I'd understand it if he was an 18 year old freshman who wasn't getting playing time but he's 20, has missed one game in his career and was producing at the college level. His grades were not great but he was still eligible so in my opinion, he did nothing more than quit on his team to play for another for a maximum of 5 months. This after St. Cloud took him when he couldn't get in to UNH. Congrats Cam, you just screwed a locker room full of guys counting on you for totally selfish reasons.

I completely understand that point of view and really have no clue whether or not he consulted the Predators before making this decision since they own his NHL rights. From his perspective though, I tend to agree that it's difficult to pass up the opportunity to play 1st line center between a 1st and 2nd round picks for a playoff bound WHL team if you believe that you are close to being ready to make the jump to the pro ranks.
SCSU no doubt just got screwed. With only 13 healthy forwards left on the roster, Reid was expected to be a leader on the ice for that team and he's now gone. Only a sophomore, he still had two years of NCAA eligibility left. Now he has 35 regular season games and the playoffs to prove himself in the WHL.
Question really now becomes, will he play well enough in the WHL to warrant the Preds giving him a shot at Milwaukee next season or does he go the route of Taylor Stefishen and head to the CIS next season to continue his college education via the CHL educational program?
I've only seen Reid in one camp and liked his raw skill. A playmaking center, Reid hung around a lot with Craig Smith that camp and the two of them impressed me going through drills together. Reid has been someone I've been keeping an eye on as a darkhorse prospect for that reason. He did not attend prospect camp this past summer, instead training 5 days a week at the Olympic Training Center in his hometown of Vancouver...

Bartschi and Rattie are two of the most dynamic players in all of the CHL this season. He should put up some serious points.
FWIW, I'm sure the Preds have their finger on the pulse of this situation as Brent Peterson used to be a part owner of and head coach of the Portland Winterhawks prior to joining the Predators organization...

So let's say he does, what exactly does that prove as an overager in those few months? Is that really going to make him more pro ready or easier to sign than if he'd finished the season with St. Cloud and then left to turn pro? IMO, nope.
i doubt anyone here has any real idea of the situation. he may have been in danger of flunking out, maybe he grew to dislike the place, whatever. I think it is foolish to throw stones at the kid without all the details.
It looks like Edmonton owned his WHL rights, traded him for a late pick yesterday to Portland, and Portland called and said, "We need a number one center. Want to play with Ty Rattie and Sven Baertschi? You have 24 hours." and Reid went for it.

He might gain confidence by playing a skill game with two highly skilled individuals.
He has a chance to be part of a championship caliber team.
Both items listed above could be helpful in preparing him for a transition to the AHL next season.
Well, since Cam Reid can't make his mind up as to which league he would like to play in, (WHL, NCAA, WHL, CIS). I'm gonna go forward with my NCAA update without Mr. Reid.
Chase Balisy: Forward
Nice to see a guy with a potential nickname of Balls and not hate him. His Western Michigan University are 2nd in the CCHA behind Ferris State 5pts back. 18th in the National poll.
32 games, 10 goals, 18 assists. Tied for 46th in the NCAA
Anthony Bitetto: Defenseman
Yeah....Northeastern is not really a strong program and is out of the Hockey East playoff spot with only pitiful Vermont keeping them from trolling the HE basement.
27 games: 4 goals, 7 assists.
Zach Budish: Forward
This is odd because he lost one year to wrecking his knee playing football and then wrecking his OTHER knee in a Vespa accident. I mean, you know he's bragging about his knee injury playing football to the ladies but what does he do with the other knee when the see the other scar.
Minnesota is leading the WCHA and should make the NCAA playoffs. #2 in National poll.
31 games: 8 goals, 17 assists.
Not bad for really his first year playing for Minnesota.
Garrett Noonan: Defenseman
BU is #1 in the national poll and 3rd in the Hockey East. Other than the most satisfying last name NOONAN! His goal scoring stats are pretty good.
26 games: 9 goals, 5 assists.
Nick Oliver: Forward
Ok, I'm going to get Cam Reid out of the way 22 games, 6 games, 9 assists. 5th on the team in scoring as a Sophmore....and he goes and GTFO. Yeah enjoy being a has been in the CIS. (Or, he can chew up the WHL and help lead the Winterhawks....)
27 games: 2 goals, 0 assists as a Freshman.
Hell, maybe Reid taking off will give Oliver more time to play..... not really, he is still a freshman
St. Cloud St. is 9th in the conference and with Reid leaving might cost them the last spot in the conference playoffs. Unless you believe in the Ewing Rallying Theory.

Nashville Predators prospect Josh Shalla who plays in the OHL (Ontario Hockey League) for the Saginaw Spirit has been named OHL player of the week with 8PTS in 3 GP
Cam Reid has a goal and 4 assists in 4 games thus far with the Portland Winterhawks (WHL), is a +2 and has 6 PIM's. Took a high-stick today in their 5-1 victory too...
Predators prospect Chase Balisy is quietly having a very good year. 24 points (9G) in 25 games for Western Michigan. Has looked pretty good so far tonight.

He's been lighting it up this year. 22 goals, 43pts in 31 games. Seems like a steal for a 4th rounder. Very interested to see how he handles going pro next year.
no rookie game. just integrated into the skills comp. For his portion of the challenge relay, i thought he looked great...but he was really only involved for about ten seconds.
