Super 16: Recent run allows Rangers to unseat B's

NHL now has us at #1 in the power rankings.
"... Perhaps "knocked out" is too strong a term. It's more like they were narrowly passed or displaced by the slimmest of margins. But the play of the New York Rangers of late has earned them top billing in this week's power rankings."

I don't ever put anything into these things and this is exactly why. It's a joke. Not even a funny joke. A "Gallagher smashing a watermelon with a sledgehammer" joke.

I don't think he understands hockey -- at all. To have us below the devils and pittsburg, and to have columbus above 7 teams

Best part for me is where they say Devils are on fire winning 7 out of last 10 games. Guess what, Rangers have won 8 out of last 10.
I wish they put us 20th. Hope people keep on underestimating us all season long.

Yeah but the Devils have better SABR stats so they're the better team.
That guy writes for the Oilers SBNation, which I think is one of the more Sabre-oriented communities there.
We're basically the opposite of a Sabr-team, with great defense and amazing goaltending but average (even then, 3 goals per game) offense.
Oh well. I'll take the Debs being ahead of us on a Sabr power ranking when, in practice, we're the better team.

So this guy justifies his rankings with bogus stats basically.

Bogus stats? Ehh, I wouldn't go that far. It does measure things that we would be better to improve on, BUT so far the actual results have flown in the face of these hockey sabr-stats because it seems they don't account for our elite goaltending and great defense.
We're a below average possession team with a subpar powerplay, but we have a good penalty kill and still manage to average about 3 goals a game.
It's also stupid to use SABR to determine how good a TEAM is- baseball Sabremetrics don't really do that at all. Even with WAR, it's a measure of how good an individual has been.
Sabre works well with baseball but is bunk when it comes to hockey.
edit- also I just realized i've used like 4 different spellings and terms for Sabremetrics.

I disagree, in baseball the stats aren't bogus, because baseball is more of an individual game.
Hockey is a team game.

Isn't this just some kid making stuff up on his blog to generate scam ridden internet ad revenue? My advice would be for him to invest his time on building a porn site. More money and less chance of getting called out for knowing jack o ****.

Let's not take anything too far... power rankings don't mean much anyway.
