Its over Rick don't alienate what fans you have left by hanging on to the smallest chance of seeing playing time at the expense of the team.
If Rick retires at some point btwn now & next season, and proceeded to take a spot on MSG(hopefully Butch's spot), fans wouldn't be sour on him. He's tried to come back over & over. He gets paid either way, so its not about the $$ I think he just loves the game & he loves this organization(who wouldn't love someone who paid you millions for the next 15 yrs from one good season?). I can't fault him for trying to comeback. I'd do it too. I CAN fault him for not changing his style & not accepting that he's done. He's risking his future like many have said here. He may not even be able to go skating with little dipietro's in 5 yrs if he keeps this up.
I hope he retires for EVERYONES sake. Take a job in the booth. He's got a great personality & thatd be a huge step up from mumbles. Just my opinion tho

in order to be even a semi-successful announcer after a playing career, you need to have some sort of legitimacy as a player.

No chance for DP.

Always surprised at how many doctors and ortho specialists we have on these boards when DPs injury status comes up.

You guys must be really good to be able to diagnose the injury and the treatment (almost always retirement) without even examining the patient.

I'll wait until the Isles propaganda department issues a statement or the man talks himself about his injury before I jump to conclusions.

Don't really agree with that. If Rick knows the game and can speak fluently theres no reason why he couldn't be an announcer. Was Howie a legitimate hockey and baseball player? Did Rosen have a storied NFL and NHL career? Why should a former player be held to a different standard then them?

I bash Rick all the time for falling apart. But I refuse to bash his desire to play hockey which seems to be the only reason Rick continues to go through surgeries and rehab and take s*** from fans like us. I truly believe his intentions are good (prove he was worth that contract and not let us down and try to be a productive NHL'er) but man Ricky just hang it up. For your own sake bud.

Nobody should be bashing or jokeing about his injuries. It's past the point of being comical. It's just ridiculous and really sad now.

I don't recall an athlete with as many injuries as him. Others have had more serious ones but not as many it seems. This is unreal.

I predict a Mike Schmidt retirement speech for Rick Dipietro when he announces. He will probably break down and cry and Ill feel bad for him.

If and when he does I feel the fans should applaud him for his will to keep bouncing back from injuries. Sure the stats werent there, Sure he could no longer play but no one can question his love for the team and how he really wanted to win with us.

The funny thing is not your "joke" but you're taking hockey WAY too seriously. Hate the player, not the person.

If Kevin Weekes and Jamie McLennan can have broadcasting careers, so too can Rick DiPietro.

I though Bailey played much better when he was with Ullstrom. Hopefully that will pick up when he gets back.

As I was writing that, I knew there were many announcers which never played hockey. Didnt matter to me. Figured others might get a kick out of it. And then I also correctly figured that people would call me out on it.

Why do I continuously post stupid stuff? I disagree. Every once in a while, I post dumb stuff. I havent been wasted on these boards in quite a while.

A rag on DP however, is never stupid. Very much needed. The mention of his name should send Isles fans laughing, or at least huddling in the corner, rocking back and forth, chanting. Same way we rag on Snow and Wang. How can you not?

and if you think DP was a good goalie at one point, then more power to ya. The padded cell is calling......
