Matt Carle's value..

He is on pace to score 45-50pts. His best season. He is playing well without Pronger (for the most part). His stats look real good, decent shot blocker, good skater. I even saw him throwing solid hits a few times this season. Has occasional brain fart during the game (his biggest issue). His career playoffs PPG average is decent for d-men.
I'd say that he is a much improved player ever since we got him from Tampa.

Realistically, what do you think we can get back for Carle? Can we get 1st plus a decent prospect or young player at the dead line?

Yeah I know we need a d-men and trading Carle would create a hole. This thread is not about that. I want to know his hypothetical value.

I'm not sure I want to trade him.
He looked excellent the last few weeks and seems to adjust to a live without Pronger.
What we should do with him is dependent on if we get one of the big guys in Nashville.
If we get Weber, keep Carle, pair him with Weber, will definetly work.
If we get Suter, trade Carle, since Suter is a similar type of player, try to get another big guy like Coburn to pair with Suter.
If we don't get anyone, keep him.

If we pair Carle with Weber (IF we can get him) we will probably see him "regress." He will be facing the best the opposition has to offer once more.

Oh wait, we like Carle now? Didn't everyone pretty much want to run him out of town last year?

I like him, always have. I think he's a lot better than he gets credit for.

i dont know his value, but i like were this is heading..

im not convinced Carle and our future team direction should be tied together.. Carle is gunna expect a pay increase to resign, so i say trade him off or let him walk.

He's going to expect mega bucks after this contract ends, and with Pronger likely done, he's going to get it.

Completely different circumstances.

I'm not particularly a Carle fan, and I did want him traded in the off-season. Why did I want him traded? Because I felt he was the most expendable piece we had in order to shed some salary and get a goalie.

What happened instead? Carter and Richards were traded. We no longer have to shed salary. Pronger is now hurt, so D is our biggest need.

Night and Day.

He would return a late first, just like Umberger did.

I wouldn't be adverse to trading him for a big shutdown D

I say trade Carle. If we get a bad team's first for him that could be used to pick up a top dman in the draft. Plus we need to start picking up some defensive dmen. How the **** many dmen do we already have that can move the puck?

Get some Andy Sutton, Johnny Boychuk, Tim Gleason, Bryan Allen type guys back their. Our d isn't tough enough. Nobody on Ottawa should have felt comfortable getting in the crease.

I mean I'm all for trading Carle IF we can get something worthwhile in return. I'd honestly rather trade Coburn first though. Sometimes I like his aggressiveness in the offensive zone but it leads to other teams' odd man rushes too often in my opinion.

His value at best would be a late 1st rounder from a better team looking for help for the playoffs. He is a UFA at the seasons end, so teams will only view him as a rental and no lower level team is going to move a good pick or prospect for him.

The funny thing is, even with all the puckmoving d-man, the turnover rate is horrendous.

I think Carle's value is a lot higher than what people realize. He's top 20 in scoring amongst defensemen this year, always has a high number of assists and when you consider he gets most of his points at even strength, that's a pretty mighty feat. I think a first round pick is not enough for Carle. A first and a top prospect is not out of the realm for a guy like Carle at all.

Carle was the person I wanted to trade to free up cap space last summer, but right now I think his value to us is higher than what we can get in a trade. Unless it's absolutely clear that Pronger won't play next season (but will remain on LTIR) I think Carle's gone in the summer though. He will get paid big bucks by someone.

If Suter won't re-sign with Nashville, maybe we can trade the rights to Carle for the rights to Suter before free agency begins...

Carle seems to be a high price just for someone's rights, though.

It would be a trade of two upcoming ufa's. I very much doubt that trade will ever happen however.

I wonder if there is any way we could gauge interest.

So you'd like Holmgren to waive him?

Post obnoxiously stupid threads in other teams' forums regarding potential trades? That seems to be the only way.
