I would love to see what Geoff Molson do what Mark Davis did with the Raiders.

Al died and Mark knew he needed to build a modern organization instead of the Old Man running everything. But he didn't need to go outside the family, he interviewed GMs with his team's old coach, John Madden, and his dad's old right hand man, Ron Wolf. The knowledge was already there, and the GM they hired is an ex-Raider who did great things with the Packers.

Have Serge and Claude Ruel there talking with Molson about how to rebuild the organization. Call Scotty, I'm sure he'd give you his two cents. Call Jacques Lemaire, Larry Robinson and Ken Dryden and get their ideas, then go hire the right guy and let him pick a coach.

Look at the Celtics, who saved the Celtics? A former Celtic.

I'd be even more pissed if they hired McGuire. They hire McGuire we'll be horrid, book it. No other GM in the league will take the guy seriously, come on now.

This team isn't some train set Molson's daddy bought for him. It's a ****ing sports team. If you think it's a circus now just wait until McGuire is GM.

I don't want Roy as GM but if I heard it was down to those two candidates I would welcome Roy as GM. He would probably be another Burke, not talking about in terms of success though Hopefully he would be if they did appoint him GM.

I want Roy as GM if he's going to succeed. If he's going to ruin the team I'd rather just continue on with PG.

Really? Because I think I read the opposite. I think it was his son who said that his father would prefer to be a GM or maybe I just dreamed about that.

Yeah I could of sworn I heard on HF that he said he'd interview with the Habs or Nordiques for both positions (coach/gm)

I feel like you dreamed about that, because I'm sure I've heard him state that he has no interest in working as a GM.

I would obviously agree to see Savard becoming the President. Just enough to throw the guidelines out there. But not full power to actually make moves. He should be more involved hockeywise, at least at the making of his management team. But the guy is intelligent. If Gainey admitted that it was too much for him at some point. You can believe that it will be for Savard. Yet, as president, why not. Besides, the guy is the one who brought us the last 2 cups. A little more respect would be neat.

Maybe he don't know every players like in the past, but he can certainly help the GM to build a competitive team. For example, right now he would tell the GM that his team is ****ing soft, please bring some toughness !!!
I agree

I really hope it was only for advice. Like someone said earlier, the game has changed way too much and I just don't think he'd do a good job as a GM.

Whoever is hired for GM will have a big house cleaning to do after Gainey shat everywhere on the floors.

Look at this list of veterans: Gomez, Cammalleri, Gionta, Kaberle, Gill.

Personally I wouldn't keep any of them but unfortunately most of them have little value, no value or negative value in the case of Gomez. Luckily Gill is an UFA.

Would you guy's want to see Serge Savard as the GM in Montreal again?

Senator may be a stand in until they find a full time GM. Somebody who has run a team day to day before. Something like Cliff Fletcher was for the Leafs between John Ferguson and Brian Burke

I think Elliotte Friedman reported that Savard has told people he is not interested in being the GM. I could be wrong though.

I'd definitely like Serge Savard as part of the crew, but not as the GM. He's been outside of the game for too long.

There may be a role for Savard in the organization but I don't want him has GM. He was the guy that completely ignored the European market for years while other teams strengthened their organizational depth. Our drafting record during his tenure was abysmal. He could replace and/or work the Gainey but I would like to see the team take a different direction when it comes to the GM position.

Savard isn't going to come back as a GM it would be as consultant. Make no mistake about it, weirdo is getting flushed, the only question is when. I see Serge being named as interim GM like a custodian (like cliff Fletcher after Ferguson and before Burke) who helps makes the transitional trades/decisions until a new GM is named. the thing i like about this if true, is that Geoff doesn't trust silent bob anymore to come back and clean up his own mess

Savard was not "that" awesome... especially in the last half of his tenure as GM.

Trading Chelios, Carbonneau, LeClair, Desjardins wasn't that good. He was about to trade Roy when he was fired.

Not completely... He drafted Koivu and Naslund.

But he hated the Russians like ALL the other guys who had played against them in 1972.
