if anything im sure the leafs would try to unite the schenn bros in toronto not philly... kardri + depth dman for brayden
only 2 players i realistically hope burke would target if luke is being dealt (imo it will be aulie going --- weve been showcasing him lately) is JVR or SIMMONDS + something minor

Well both these deals are horrendous for the Flyers so hopefully they never happen
Giroux, JVR, Voracek, Couturier, or B. Schenn (based on organizational opinion not necessarily current value).
then you'd probably not come close to Schenn. Look, Burke prior to whatever people think is not stupid. If Luke was to go to Philly, Braydon would not go the other way or Couturier for that matter. As for JVR I don't know as his name has surfaced in trade rumors recently and Burke is using the Leafs as a perpetual chemistry building model for U.S players.
(thats why I think Parise may end up their in the offseason)
Luke Schenn would be a good fit on the blueline here. Last season, he lead the league in hits and was playing over 22 minutes. Somehow or another, he's ended up in Ron Wilson's dog house again this year. Gee, go figure, another young defenseman who has ended up in Ron Wilson's dog house. If you look at the coaching history of Ron Wilson, you'll see that he's been extremely tough on young defensemen and that most don't usually develop under his watch. He ruined Matt Carle in Matt's second season in San Jose and he ruined countless others during his time in Washington and Anaheim (Oleg Tverdovsky is a good example of someone who he ruined).
Just wait until next year when Jake Gardiner is in Ron Wilson's dog house. Cody Franson was already there this year. Hell, even Keith Aulie, who should have been on the Toronto roster, was in Ron's dog house and got sent to the Marlies.

I think Holmgren would offer voracek in a minute. Obviously it would take more. Couturier and B Schenn aren't going anywhere. JVR could get them Schenn + a pick or player. Giroux could get you Kessel +.

Burke was just on a radio show saying a trade is "on the burner" and could happen soon. He mentioned earlier in it to being open to the possibility of trading a high value young player (22 was his example) of one position for another high value 22 year old of another position. Schenn, Aulie and JVR are all 22. Might be something, might not.

It does sound like Burke is talking about Schenn... but I just can't see JVR on the Leafs. That would be so strange.
dumbest trade in the nhl if we give up a guy we're supposed to be building our future on for someone who we have for just this season, besides it's not even happening anyway

Schenn is signed for five years so it wouldn't be for just this season. He'd be a guy they presumably be building the defense around. But I agree I wouldn't want to see JVR or Schenn go if we are getting back only Schenn.

B. Schenn is going nowhere - but Burke likes Americans... I could see him wanting JVR.
I wonder if part of Holmgren's (speculated) attraction to L. Schenn is loyalty... he's signed for 5 years and I bet if he was traded to Philly he would stay with the Flyers as long as Brayden is still there.

Also of note - Luke Schenn is currently playing the role of 6th D man on the Leafs... might not be too soon to think he could be dealt.
Yikes. Has he been that bad? We definitely shouldn't be giving up JVR for this guy.

Put in the right situation. I said the exact same thing to a buddy of mine last night. He reminds me of him.
Not to mention he's on pace to get 50 points at a cheaper price than Jody Shelley AND he's signed for the next two and a half seasons. He's a very valuable piece.
you guys are talking about read's potential while ignoring schenn's. schenn is three years younger than read, and defensemen develop slower than forwards.
burke values schenn a lot. he's the only leaf signed past the 2014 season for a reason.
Apparently Burke was on the radio mentioning a trade was on the horizon and used an example of trading a young player of one position for a young player of another position
used a 22 year old for another 22 year old as an example
jvr is 22 so is schenn....if we trade jvr ill be so pissed.
