He's maybe not that physical, but ads something to the offense and is 3rd on the defense for shots blocked and takeaways.
Both are similar age, come from Europe and had no problems adjusting to the game, so I don't get why one is god and the other is just okay.
By the way, Diaz leads the NHL in Rookie points for Dmen.
We've had a couple threads about Diaz already too, both guys have impressed this year and they actually have looked their best when paired together. People were mad when Diaz played over Emelin because we had too many soft defenseman playing and could've used a guy like Emmy, but with Campoli being scratched/playing as a 7th defenseman we've been able to play both Diaz and Emelin lately and they've stepped up and made the most of their ice time.

There's going to be a real log jam at defence in a year or two for this team.

After the Marchand - Salo incident, are Emelin's hip checks in danger of being called? I realize Marchand's clipping was not a hip check but the result -- the recipient going up and over -- looks the same so not sure how the refs will go, you know, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...

Anyway we play the bruins next week and I'll bet if Emelin dispatches one of the black and yellow pukes their board will go ballistic.

Don't think so. Emelin is becoming the best open ice hitter in the league. Out of his many, many hits this season, not one has come even close to half as dirty as Marchand's .

Believe me, the main board would not waste a chance to ***** about another hab. The fact that it's all praise for him shows just how clean he is.

Marchand changed levels pretty drastically, which is something that Emelin almost never does. He just bends over and connects hip to hip. Clean as it gets.

I don't think you can hit someone lower than where Marchand hit.

Some bruins fans were actually saying that for it to be clipping, he would have to football tackle Salo in the shins.

Marchand hit Salo's legs at typical rattlesnake bite level.

He had an awful game tonight. He has good hands, I want to see him work on his break out because most of the time his passes don't connect. He has the tools, he still needs work.

Not that he played amazing tonight.. I wouldn't call it a bad giveaway.. He fell. And Gill played like a ****ing minor leaguer and screened Price. Gill needs to go.

Gotta be hard for a defenseman when you're switching between the left and right side all game. Wish we didn't have that plug Gill wasting space on the left side so we could see Emelin there full-time.

It's not about the levels it's about the situation. Marchand clearly went out of his way to do a dirty hit. Emelin takes guys with the puck and he never hits from behind. His hits are the definition of hard clean hits.

He meant the 3rd goal and it was a pretty bad giveaway.

I'm a big Emelin fan but tonight was one of his worst games. Seemed to be trying to do a bit too much offensively.

I thought he was one of our best Dman last night, except for that atrocious giveaway. We we're going to lose the game anyway lol.

Exactly, making passes he shouldn't have made.

Even if I'm not really a fan of P.K. Swagger recently, I gotta admit he's a beast at passing. He should just do it more often in the offensive zone too and not try to touch the roof of the Bell Centre when faking a shot..

This is his first year in North America. Since playing in the AHL is out of the question, the only way he's going to learn how to translate his offense is trying stuff which will lead to mistakes. It's not like he was able to do it right away in the KHL either.

Was one of his worst games as a hab so far. I still thought he looked better than either of Gimpoli, a pairing that is looking to rival dandouillon for most useless defensive pairing in recent memory.

His two mistakes were on the right side. He was solid on the left. It's not easy switching between the two in a game and he's a rookie to boot. All the other D make mistakes even Gorges but it's rare with him. The problem I have is when the older D like Gill make rookie mistakes.

Oh, don't worry. I wasn't bashing him or anything. I have very high expectations for him. He'll be one of the more infamous habs in the next coming years. I also agree that he needs to play on the left, at least for the time being.

It also assumes promising guys develop well, which should never be a given.

Habs really aren`t anything special there. Promising prospects bust everywhere. That Montreal produces so many NHL players is actually astounding especially given where they draft.

Putting his body in harms way to block a shot, which lead to a goal.

Big fan of Emelin and find myself watching more habs games because of him. I was wondering what is the value that habs fans rate him at?
