It's funny hearing Rangers fans **** on Semin though when he basically eliminated them twice from the playoffs
Or it couldn't be that the Caps had a monster edge in everything but goaltending.

Semin scored the OT game winner in game 1. Big game? In game 4 in New York behind 3-0 in the 3rd period Semin scored the first goal on a solo effort/second effort goal. big game? In game 5 he scored the clinching goal on a 2 on 1 off a saucer pass that didnt hit the ice. Big game?

remember a couple seasons before that. the rangers and caps played a 7 game playoff series. fedorov scored the winner in a 2-1 game. the other goal for washington was scored by alex semin. was that a big game? the caps were behind 3 games to 1 in that series. Semin scored in each of the three wins to win that series. all big games.

not that i think the caps trade semin to the rangers, but if there is a coach outside of washington that thinks semin is a big game player, its probably tortarella
Whoa! Talk about a playoff warrior! If I'm the caps then I'd do whatever it takes to retain his services forever!

Semin shows up alot more than Gaborik thats for sure. He did next to nothing vs the caps in the playoffs...id like to compare his stats vs other teams but im having trouble finding any numbers.

i'd say thats as bad an overreaction as saying the guy is not a big name player. he has had numerous big games in big playoff games for the capitals. if did that series in and series out season after season, he'd be a superstar

Yeah, you basically just elaborated two paragraphs about a few goals he had while eliminating the rest of his playoff history which is basically him being a no-show, WHILE showing us that you don't have a clue of what kind of player Tortarella wants playing for him.

For what it's worth, Erik Christensen was just sent down to Hartford, and Avery was just waived... Just throwin' it out there.

If Alex Semin is such a great player, why isn't Washington scrambling frantically to resign him?

You're right, Alex Semin knows what corners of the rink are and knows what defense is, and fights once in a while.

He's so good that you can keep him.

Ok, so you basically just acknowledged the part that you left out of your other post about him sucking against teams other than the Rangers in the playoffs.

This discussion's officially over.

Torts might think he's a big name player, because i don't know what he's thinking. However, there would be no interest in him whatsoever to bring him to the hockey club. He simply doesn't fit. Especially with Torts.

He's played in 6 playoff series. Here's a rundown.

Flyers in 07-08: He was a big part of the Caps pushing it to 7 games, going 3-5-8, including a goal and an assist games 5 and 6, when the Caps were on the verge of being eliminated.

Rangers in 08-09: Went 5-3-8, with points in 6 of the 7 games.

Penguins in 08-09: Couldn't find the net, but he had 6 assists, including two in the game 6 win to keep us alive.

Canadiens in 09-10: Got stonewalled by Halak (just like Corsby and Malkin in the next round) and notched 2 assists.

Rangers in 10-11: Scored in each of the last two games, going 3-1-4.

Lightning in 10-11: A goal and an assist was actually one of the better offensive performances that series, as the Caps couldn't break Tampa's trap with all our PMDs injured.

Compared to Gaborik's 4 goals and 3 assists since the lockout, that looks pretty damn good. How much more can you ask for than 30 points in 37 games?

I'd be perfectly fine with the Caps resigning him. Only problem is the money; the Caps are probably better off using that money for more depth, since they have very little secondary scoring right now.

Oh, and he beat up Marc Staal. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Why are we even trying to trade him to the Rangers. Much rather watch him eliminate them for the 3rd time in a row lulz.
