Coach: Patrick Roy(with guys like Larry Robinson, and Jacques Lemaire as assistants...they wouldn't be interested in the Head coaching position in a "hot head" city like Montreal, but I believe they could be persuaded to take assistant coaching jobs).
Scouting Staff: Keep the same staff for the time being.
These steps would address all language issues, while providing strong voices on the ice. Management can get rid of all
"smurfs", and bring in a fast, tough, talented, physical team, with the excuse that former management had signed the current
team, and that they wanted to go in a different direction.(No attachment to any current team members = no problem getting rid
of anyone on the current roster which would make the team better).

Savard - Probably wouldn't accept the position. Busy with outside interests.
Dryden - See Savard
Damphousse/D.Savard/C. Lemieux/Turgeon - We need someone with experience in this vital position. Or at the very least, experience being an assistant GM. Throwing one of these four in as GM would be team suicide IMO.
Roy - Interesting, I'm on the fence on whether he'd be able to handle NHL players.
Robinson - Has a nice comfy job with the Devils. So I highly doubt he'd leave to come back to Montreal.
Lemaire - This spring he stated that he was "fully retired" from coaching. So it's possible, but highly unlikely that he'd change his mind.

You talk about building a physical team yet you want one of softest NHL players of all-time (Pierre Turgeon) to be on your team of inexperienced builders????

I would love to see what Geoff Molson do what Mark Davis did with the Raiders.
Al died and Mark knew he needed to build a modern organization instead of the Old Man running everything. But he didn't need to go outside the family, he interviewed GMs with his team's old coach, John Madden, and his dad's old right hand man, Ron Wolf. The knowledge was already there, and the GM they hired is an ex-Raider who did great things with the Packers.
Have Serge and Claude Ruel there talking with Molson about how to rebuild the organization. Call Scotty, I'm sure he'd give you his two cents. Call Jacques Lemaire, Larry Robinson and Ken Dryden and get their ideas, then go hire the right guy and let him pick a coach.
Look at the Celtics, who saved the Celtics? A former Celtic.
Not just for advices, Lemaire and Scotty would be great as a management team. Look at the Wings, they have many cooks. And hire a young GM to go along with that.

Not sure why some people are blasting the idea of Savard returning as a president or a GM for this franchise. Savard's long time relationship with the Molson family is well known and i doubt very much that Savard would have lost all his hockey knowledge. You don't lose your ability to judge talent because you left the hockey world... Let's speculate and say that Savard become the Gm. We all know that he would be smart enough to hire an assistant who would update him on various issues. I'm not seeing this as a problem per se. I'm gonna add that since Serge Savard, there was very few successful GM aside, maybe, Andre savard...
You, guys, need a MAJOR overhaul as the same as Boston did a few years ago. Some fans are totally in love with Timmins but quite franckly, the results are not very good. Price, Plekanec and Subban were very good selection but... when you look at other teams read Boston, they have 4 drafted players ( Bergeron, Krecji, Marchand and Lucic ) in their top 6. I would say that, at least, two of them are impact players. Biggest problem when you don't have depth or the farm system to fill your needs is that you have to overpay on the UFA market. Rangers, a few years ago, were a prime example on how things can turn sour quickly when you rely on the UFA market to " build " your team.
Molson have a lot of decision to make and i think that if he's really serious about building a top contender, he will be willing to eat a TON of money by burying Gomez in the minors and maybe buy out some contracts. Still can't believe that Gauthier traded for Kaberle abd his backloaded contract... Don't think that i doesn't feel your pain. My Bruins were stuck in that s***-o-rama pattern for years before the Chiarelli era. I'm on the " good " side on the fence now but it took 2-3 very bad years and a good drafting process to get out of it...

True but President and GM are 2 completely different things. He hasn't managed a team in so long and never managed one under a cap. The players aren't the same today as they were 20 years ago. I have no problem with the him being the President or even as a consultant but GM would be a mistake IMHO
Yes we need to go that route at least 2 more seasons since we are stuck with a lot of bad contracts. We'll see what the next GM can do, this hoping Gauthier is fired
