These are two very well matched teams up and down. Bruins have a bit more physicality to them, but the Rangers are better at moving the puck up and down the ice. Should be a fun series if they play. I would say Bruins win in 6 or 7 as of right now.
I know you won't like it but Boston has a goal differential of +70 versus +35 for the Rangers.

To say that Boston isn't the clearly better team is borderline insane.

That being said, not knocking the Rangers, they are a fantastic team as well.

Bruins. Of course NYR could win a 7 game series...there's tons of variance in the NHL. Heck, last year the Bruins almost got eliminated in round 1.

So you are going to completely neglect the fact that Seguin has improved tremendously since they won the cup and that Marchand has improved as well, and that Kelly and Peverley are playing much better this year than they were last year?

OK.

Yes They are. Toughest and deepest team in the nhl by a wide margin. You can homer all you want but you can't deny these facts.

If they were clearly better they would be ahead in the standings. There's nothing "clearly" or "ainec" in this matchup.

The question is: Do you think the Rangers can beat them in a seven game series.

I say if the Rangers get the goaltending, they have a shot -- home ice is a must.
Bruins already have it.

The Bruins really have no holes on their team.

I'd give the edge in goal to Rangers though.

Let me know when they make the SC finals again.
Pens and Wings made back to back SC finals in 08 and 09, each winning a Cup.

Chicago 10 and Anaheim 07 are still better than 11 or 12 Bruins as far as I am concerned (more dominant in playoffs). That can change IN THE FUTURE. Not now.

Rangers are great this year, top in the league.

I feel the Bruins are still better though.

Rangers find ways to win a lot of games.

Bruins are finding ways to dominate a lot of games.

I didn't realize the Rangers lead the league in fights. Thought us "goons" had that locked in

My bias says the Bruins, but I think they are pretty evenly matched. The B's get the slight edge, but I think it'd be a great series probably going all 7. Two great tough teams.

You would be in minority. If Thomas is having trouble they can simply throw Rask in and still have a top 3 goaltender in net. It's So perfectly built team it's just beautiful.

I have a ton of respect for the Bruins as I think they are a fantastic hockey team, but this post actually makes a lot of sense.

Just so you are clear, you are saying that Team A, who has a scored 35 more goals than Team B, and hypothetically allowed the same amount of goals, is not clearly better because they've lost 2 more games than Team B.

Easily the most ridiculous thing I've seen on these boards.

Hard to bet against the Bruins coming out of the east. I still think Philly has a better team than anyone but the B's but they have some guys that really need to step up and get it going.

I wouldn't. You'd have a stronger argument if it was just Thomas or Rask instead of both of them on the team.

When one team has a goaltender like Lundqvist (or Thomas), it doesn't matter how good the opposing team. Goalies like him aren't just capable of stealing games they can steal entire series.

I can't see why Jan 21st would decide which team is stronger. To be fair, I'll wait until the play-offs, we will see 'real' champions in May/June, when these two sides could meet.

bruins have the slight edge being the defending cup champs. that goal differential is really really astounding, i dont know of any other team that has had one that high. reg season means nothing last year we were 3-1 vs the caps and 3-1 vs the bruins. but 1/21 will give us an idea on how they would match up. both teams are built very similiar, shutdown defenses, and 2 WORLD CLASS goalies. hank and timmy t are like 1a and 1b. rangers have a good offense but i still think we are one top 6 legit scoring threat away from being a team you dont wanna see in the playoffs. bruins offense is better than the rangers being how all 4 lines are all scoring with balance. then again when they play, expect the 2-1,3-2 outcome. every year these 2 teams are fun to watch when they play. this year it will be taken to a whole new level.

the best part about these 2, they basically have been going jab for jab since oct 31st, the rangers are 24-6-1. since nov 1, the bruins are 24-5-1. talk about being close. can't wait for the heavyweight bout next weekend.

They're only behind in the standings because of the poor start. You know, that hangover thingy they had after winning the STANLEY CUP?

Rangers are a very good team but you HAVE to give Boston the edge. They have deeper forwards, an All-Star Norris winning defenseman, a two time Vezina/Conn Smythe winner, and they're playing with a $***load of confidence after last years playoff run.

Of course Lundqvist is the key in all this. If he plays at the top of his game they can certainly beat the Bruins.

Looking forward to the 21st.
