This would be a lot more exciting if they were both locked up long-term

Showcasing Suter?

Glad Smitty is making the rookie skills comp. Maybe the experience will get him going again.

There are usually a couple of players that decide not to go every year. Lidstrom has been to enough of these, it wouldn't surprise me if he said no this time.

Good to see Suter get the recognition. And Smith... the nhl.com knowitalls didnt even have Smith in consideration

hard to argue with the goalies chosen. Pekkas numbers arent up to his usual standards so far. I'd still take him over any of the other six, though.

And Im just as happy that Peks will get to rest a little for the stretch drive

Kind of demeans the value of being selected when Ovechkin makes the list with the year he's having, but good to see the club get some recognition from... who exactly selects these again?

did any other caps make the team? I know there has to be one player from each team... plus hes only having a down year by ovechkin standards... if we had anyone with 17G right now we'd be screaming for them to be included..

I'm pretty sure there are several teams that didn't have any selected?

CBJ, Colorado, NJ Devils, just off the top of my head I think there's a couple more.

You're right, but I'm pretty sure each of those teams has a player involved in the rookie skills comp. (Johanssen, Henrique, O'Reilly?)

yes it can be either the main team or the rookie squad but each team must have one.

Caps also had Wideman so my theory doesnt hold water however...

Yeah - Dennis Wideman, who could actually make a case for being there.

Ovechkin isn't in the top 30 in overall scoring or the top 20 in goals. Of the nine 20 goal scorers in the league coming into tonight, four of them weren't selected (Vrbata, Moulson, Sharp, and Neal). Even if you don't think they'll play due to injury or whatever else, you at least give them the honor of the designation. I mean, Hell, Hartnell has outproduced Ovechkin this season. So have Bergeron, Jokinen, Marleau, Filppula, Whitney, Fleischmann, Moulson, Thornton, and Parenteau, and I'd bet few to none of those guys even got a sniff of Ottawa. St. Louis has produced just as many points in five fewer games and didn't go.

Columbus, Colorado, Edmonton, New Jersey, and Carolina. Granted, Columbus and Carolina don't have anybody really worthy of selection, and Colorado really doesn't, either, but Eberle has been sensational for the Oilers, and the Devils have three players in the top 30 scorers (Elias, Kovalchuk, Parise), which is more than can be said for AO. He isn't even the leading scorer on his own team.

Colorado, New Jersey, Carolina, and Edmonton all got rookies selected, but the rookies don't play in the ASG, which is the whole point of getting players selected.

It's not too comforting to know that our soon-to-be highest paid goalie in the league didn't make the all-star team, and is sitting 25th in GAA, and 16th in SV%. Wonder what his stats will be like in 8 years?

I'm actually glad he didn't make it ... gets a few days of extra rest and relaxation.

Other than the fact that Suter has earned being on the AS roster many years so it's a great reward for him, I wish he hadn't made it either. Just raises the stakes even higher for his next contract ...

and yet we're 6th in the conf and what, 10th in the league? it's a beauty contest mid-point of the season - I'd like all our guys home resting for the 2nd half myself. But..... instead of using 20-20 hindsight, how bout you just tell us what those numbers are gonna' be at year-end?

Pekka's playing pretty well. He's at the top of the league in wins, shots faced, and saves. He's not gotten much rest at all. So, while he's not having as good a year as last year, he hasn't been bad at all.
