Detroit is a good fit. Want a guy like this for end of year rental --- if cheap enough --- so more flexibility to use other assets to rejuvenate aging talent base.

Hawks given last wave on injuries, + don't want Red Wings to get em, also smaller possibility.

Smells like a GM planting a story with a dumb reporter to try and drum up interest in a player whose passed through waivers a few times.

Lol what don't people get about how RE-ENTRY WAIVERS works?

I mean there aren't any conclusions to draw with speculations. He simply refuses to be on the hook of one half of Avery's salary. Dallas was already stupid enough to make that mistake so Sather learned from them.

There was a reason DET moved him to LA and it wasn't because they were getting a good player back.

Yes, and he's the only coach that liked Avery, and Avery played well for him. Given the shortage of bodies in EDM, and the fact that Renney knows how to handle him, I think everyone who is thinking EDM is spot on.

Would it be possible for New York to trade him to a team and get a pick or something and then when the team tries to bring him up through re-entry put in a claim?

there has to be a rule against this but that would be.. genius.

With the Avs looking to dump Stastny at the deadline for anything they can get, maybe they need Avery's cap hit for the rest of the season to stay above the cap floor.

The best bet for pulling a deal off is probably the Carolina Hurricanes, as they are in the Bottom 6 in the league for salary and will likely be selling off Bryan Allen, Tim Gleason and Tuomo Ruutu for picks and prospects.

So. hypothetically, something like

To Carolina: Sean Avery
To NY Rangers: Cedric McNicoll

Then Carolina recalls Avery, he's claimed by the team who wants Rangers to bring him up, and Carolina get a little artificial bump to their cap-space, and Rangers put McNicoll in the AHL, and in June, simply don't qualify him. Pretty clever stuff by Sather, if true.
Brooks wrote about the Rangers taking AHL player(s) on one way contracts in exchange for Avery. Brooks wrote about trading Avery in a minor league deal with the Rangers taking back additional dollars which was the Rangers counterproposal to the team which inquired about Avery on re-entry.

Buffalo has Shoane Morrisonn in the AHL. Vancouver has Steven Reinprecht and Ryan Parent in the AHL. All under one way contracts. Morrisonn and Reinprecht make slightly more money than Avery. Parent has a $1M salary this season.

Those players fit the criteria Brooks outlined in his article today.

Avery and another SPC(insignificant minor leaguer)to VAN for Reinprecht,Parent and a conditional pick(3rd round pick in 2013). If Avery clears re-entry,the Canucks send a 3rd to the Rangers. If Avery is claimed,a lesser pick is involved. VAN has 1/4 of Avery's cap hit on their cap.

The Rangers owe Avery $1,036,824 for the rest of this season. The Canucks owe Reinprecht and Parent $1,699,054 for the rest of this season. The Rangers take on $662,230 in real money. The Rangers don't have to do anything with Avery. He doesn't count against the cap. They would be doing Avery a favor and taking on more money in the deal to get him back into the NHL. The Rangers should get something out of the deal.

For christs sake man, a player asked Subban if he slipped on a banana peel You think he won't ever play on a team with a black player now?
The media distraction simply wouldn't be worth it. It would be like the Habs situation with a French coach.

Comment wasn't made on the ice. There's the difference.

Second comment doesn't apply. Maybe if the player was blatantly racist towards Subban off the ice, then there were rumors about him being traded to Montreal the situation would apply.

It's not about being sensitive, it's about not taking that kind of crap from someone, then having your GM put him on your team.

Whenever there is an Avery trade/waive thread people seem to point to the Isles as a possibility. There is none.

I think if there is any truth to it that I think its the Calgary Flames.

When Avery was on re-entry waivers earlier in the year the Flames had no need for additional forwards, but since then their forwards (and defensemen for that matter) have dropped like flies.

Now that the Flames have Tanguay, Morrison, Stajan and Moss all out hurt and Bourque suspended for a couple more games it is possible that they are looking for someone affordable to fill in for the top 6 on a temporary basis and sadly Avery is the type of player the Flames could use especially on re-entry waivers at less than a million

100% Inaccurate. Snow inquired about him the first time. Avery didn't want to play there.

I dont think I ever would have thought edmonton in about 50 years. We dont want Souray for his attitude but want a roster spot for Avery?
