My fave is those who bemoan not re-signing Wiz but would be flipping right now and saying Gauthier ruined this team with another bad contract if we kept him. Same goes for Streit back in the day with Gainey. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't. The point should not be "Why didn't we keep Wiz?" it should be "Why is our team so incapable of scoring on the PP that losing Wiz should drop us to 30th?"
they don't trust Kaberle some nights 13-15 mins ...and paying him how much?
Anyways , just a mess...
Now you got your top young players(Pacman and Subban) wishing the team was MORE TOUGHER....
Don't think there alone ....i bet 90% of the room feels the same .
Finally some people see the light. HOW MANY YEARS HAVE I BEEN ASKING FOR THIS! No, I'm not a Bruins fans, but I'm a fan of their style. And the Habs were just going the total opposite way. We,ve got to back to the roots. You need the greatest of mix between talent and toughness. Boston has it. We still don't by a mile.
So now that players are asking for it, can we take it now seriously?
Bro, same here. This was the one place where fans thought size and toughness was a non-factor. Now they're seeing the light. I have been asking for size and toughness and a more aggressive style for such a long time. Even when we were winning. I'm happy that the fans are finally realizing this and now the organization is.
There's a reason why Moen isn't as "tough" as he was before he got here. He looks around and doesn't see a single player that can back him up.
And do you think everyone likes Pronger? You think everyone likes Kessler or Marchand? You don't need to have a bunch of well liked guys to be successful. As long as the respect is there, I don't see a problem. You think Roy was liked by all his teammates? Jagr? Ciccareli?
Makes no sense at all.
I believe Bourque might be viewed as a replacement for AK, not necessarily Cammy.
If he does well, then AK could become more expendable and PG might be looking at the free agency to replace Cammy.
Plekanec makes sense only if we get a better center in return, which would likely mean he'd be packaged.
As for PK, completely idiotic to move him.
Price wasn't really well liked by some of his teammates too at some point. PK will settle down. I think the media likes to hate on PK a lot more than his teammates actually do.
Why would it be "idiotic" to trade Subban? More dominant players than PK have been traded. IMO you're creating a supersized image. If you think he will become one of the 10 or 12 best Dmen in the NHL I would disagree with you. Carey Price is one of the top half dozen goaltenders in the league but we couldn't honestly say that any other Hab is in that bracket.

Subban's play to close out last year and in the playoffs, was very much at the level of top 10, if not top 5, in the league.
he was playing 28+ minutes a game in the B's series, and was (even factoring in Cammy's goal scoring), the habs best player on the ice.
He's been shaky this season, and yet still being used almost 24 min/game in his sophomore season.
I don't know where you'd rank him right now, based on his play I still think he'd have to be in the top 30 in the league, and he has a grand total of 142 games on his NHL resume.
let's talk again when Subban is at ~300 games, I suspect that by then he will definitively be in the top 15, if not top 10 conversation.
I think, given how big his personality is, and how quickly he's emerged as a minute-crunching 1st pairing dman, people seem forget that he's a 2nd year player, and a guy that is only 22 years old who has established himself far quicker than even the most optimistic observer speculated at the time of his drafting.
his attitude needs a bit of mentoring, a problem in part to do with how quickly he became the clear cut best dman on his team imo, but his work ethic, intensity and skill are without a doubt a level where it would be foolish to think he won't get a lot better as time goes by.
Great idea, lets trade Subban because of his attitude... it worked out well when we trade Kostitsyn and Ribeiro because of their "attitudes" too.
People say we need to rebuild then they want to trade one our best defenseman who is 22 for a guy who will be a UFA after next year that will probably not even want to sign here..
You don't trade Subban for his attitude. You get a captain or a coach with enough gravitas that can run a ship with all kinds of personnalities. Players won't all be soft-spoken like Tom Pyatt.

I think it is good that Subban and Pacioretty are coming out and stating what is necessary to win in this league.
These fossils who run the organization know nothing of the game how it's played now and it is evident in every move they make.
I was all for trading Cammy. Did I feel it was necessary to trade him IMMEDIATELY because of his comments? No. Not at all. Every one knows his value was at an all-time low and that if we held on til the deadline we could've had a bidding war between offensively starved teams going into the play-offs. We could have flipped from a position of weakness to strength to better our team.
All the components of the last great Canadiens collapse are present. A reactionary GM who does not know how to get good return for the players he trades. Molson owning the team. The language issue at the forefront once again being allowed to play a part in the management of the team, coaching of the team, players on the team, the organizational perception. The media is using its influence to drag everyone through the mud and forcing our hand to deal from a position of weakness.
We need a confident individual in the GM position who is prepared to face criticisms. Prepared to take the brunt of blame, the ****storm of the politics and the media. To withstand the pressure to WIN NOW. Someone who can remain calm amidst all of this and do what is best for this team.

I've never heard anybody say Subban has a bad attitude. I don't see a comparison with SK and Ribeiro, those guys loved to party and weren't fond of practise. Subban is not a big party guy and he is usually one of the first on the ice and last off.
He does things that I'm sure rub his teammates the wrong way, that's probably what the journalist is talking about. When you're winning, nobody cares and when you are not every little thing gets scrutinized. I think it would be moronic to trade Subban for those reasons. He is still maturing both on and off the ice and should be a cornerstone of the franchise.
And Getzlaf is not a huge, huge return ? Getzlaf is exactly what we need as the true #1C this team is lacking since more than a decade.
He's a borderline UFA (we'd get him for 1.5 seasons) and Subban is an RFA and Plek is signed to a fair contract long term.
It's not that the value isn't there so much as it's a bad fit. We would need a guy more-so in a situation like Carter. Signed long term to a generous cap hit. Players like Getzlaf do fetch a lot but their contract does weigh in as a major factor. 1.5 years just isn't cutting it when you lose Plek/Subban.

And on top of that they wanna sweeten the pot with Plek.
I guarantee a deal could be had centered around either player without it resulting in both. When a guy has 1 year left it isn't exactly one of those players you pay the moon for.
Trading Subban will make no sense. There's a bunch of mediocre teams that have some real star power up front. You know why they keep losing? Cause their defense sucks. Trading Subban+ for an offensive star will make us more like one of these teams.
You've got to build from the back out. Trading Subban would be a pretty big setback. If anything, we should be looking to acquire more elite defensemen, but teams rarely look to trade these guys. We had a pretty damn good puck-moving poweplay specialist with toughness and a hell of a shot last year, but we apparently didn't even make him an offer...
the media is on a crusade to get Subban traded out of Montreal...people should remember how we've lacked patience with our young stars and how its come back to haunt us.
If trading Subban+ get us Getzlaf then I am for it.
there will come a time when pk is going to have to backup his bull ****, thats when he's going look even worst then komi looked against the bruins. He's setting himself up for a big big fall one of the nights, he should take a look at how emelin plays the game, just go's about his bussiness and not looking for trouble or laughing in someone's face. Pk is becoming a ****in rat.

Subban is a great talent but I have to admit that he is an embarrassment and world class coward far too often.
PK is abrasive, cocky, immature, brash, arrogant and a hell of a hockey player. He needs to grow up, get a wife, and start making babies. Once he grows up and mellows a bit, he'll be a top 10 defensemen in the NHL.

lol just imagine the classlessness all the mini-Subbans would bring.
In all seriousness though the only scenario atm I would consider trading Subban is if another team offered a star player like Perry/Getzlaf/Staal without the Habs having giving up any other major pieces. I do not see that happening though so I think Subban will be the Habs at least for a little while.
Everybody should chill the **** out... He's playing top minutes with Gorges... Rest of our D consists of Diaz, Weber, Campoli, Gill, Kaberle and Emelin. Let's not go overboard and start hunting every player out of town. We're having a bad season, I understand, but this is pushing it way too far.
