There's a premium on experienced playoff D at the deadline, and I'd be severely disappointed if Gill couldn't get us at least a 2nd. I wouldn't settle for less if I was PG. If 5 teams offered me a 2nd, I'd have to ask them all if any of them would give up a 1st to win the prize. If Campoli can draw that stuff, then so can Gill.

I agree...

though I hope opposing GM's spend more time watching tapes of Gill in past years, than watching him closely right now, otherwise that value might drop significantly.

But that's impossible. All the experts on here told me Hal Gill is useless and sucks.

Management needs to go period!!
Please don't remind me. I hated this trade, from a size point of view. Martin sucked with youth.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gill and/or Moen both got 2nd round picks.

Philly may look to add Gill by the deadline to help their playoff push. A 2nd from them will be damn near a 3rd.

Moen WILL get interest from about 10 teams in a playoff hunt, and a 2nd isn't out of the question. Heck, add to him and land a 1st.

Campoli may net us a 3rd/4th?

Bottom line at best. two 2nds and a 4th from outgoing UFA's would be amazing to help restock the prospect cupboards. Added to that; Kristo, Tinordi, Beaulieu, Gallagher, Bournival and possibly Steve Quailer all AHL bound for at least a season and we aren't looking too bad in a couple seasons. Notice that most have the size element or just play big (Gallagher).

I am sure that Julien Brisebois will do an excellent job as GM starting this summer...that's right, I'm calling it here and now. Brisebois as MTL GM by June. Book it.

same d o u c h e nozzles that claimed Cammy would never be traded cause nobody wanted him and if they did a conditional 7th was all we would get.

Guys like Tanguay, Wiz get 2nd round picks. How in God's name would Gill get us a 2nd??
We'd be lucky to get a 3rd for him. The man is horrible, he's probably playing his last games in the NHL, and is solely a PK player.
If we get a 2nd rounder it would be an absolute steal.

Even less than a special teams guy, he's just a PK specialist, which is half of the special teams.

Wait until he brings in a 2nd rd pick before you try to attack posters with your sarcasm. Most didn't think cammy was anything better than a 2nd rd pick, but Gill is worth a 2nd rd pick. Where do you guys come up with this?

Gill is terrible but I find that 2nd round picks are too overrated on this forum. IMO a contender would have no problem giving us a 2nd round pick if they thought Gill was the missing piece to a Stanley Cup.

Yeah, I don't think he is worth a second, but you never know. Teams do crazy things at the deadline. Packaged with another small salary and UFA like Moen, he could be attractive depth for another team.

I agree, but at the deadline GM's get stupid. I can't see us getting better than 3rd/4th, but stranger things have happened. Like Rivet for 1st/Gorges, GM's at the trade deadline always over pay, partly why the trade we made for cammy makes me physically sick to my stomach.

Gill is a nice guy that crawls on the ice faster then he skates.
I would love to see something like Gill + Calgarys 2nd in 2013 for a 1st this year.

GMs Will be looking at Hal Gill ”after the trading deadline has passed and say geez I wish I knew he was available because I would have definitely liked to make an offer."

I never said anything about a 2nd round pick. My point is if Gill is so useless and sucks so much then why would any playoff bound team want him at all?

I'm pretty sure we will win that trade on the long run as Bournival is shaping up to be a good two-way center/winger. He's been a more than PPG player the last two year in the QMJHL and is almost a goal per game right now in his fourth year (17 goals in 18 games).

I agree 100%. What he was traded for in the past, or his age doesn't matter at this point.

Teams looking at him will be looking at him to feel a need.

Top teams with bad PK's (Chicago?) that'll draw the most interest. He can slide in nicely in a 5-6 role, and be a PK specialist in the playoffs.

And if you can't get at least a 2nd for that....

No chance he gets us a 2nd.

He can't even play regular strength minutes anymore. He is only affective for PK.

I don't think anybody will give up a 2nd for a player that will play 13 minutes or less.

I hope Gill fetch a 3rd and Campoli a 2nd.

Then we can end the year with Markov, Gorges, Subban, Emelin, Kaberle, Diaz and Weber. Strange enough, it's a (much) improved unit.
Markov - Subban
Gorges - Kaberle
Emelin - Diaz
Weber

Even if we can only get a 3rd, it's still a pretty good pick. I'm sure a lot of very good players and all-stars were 3rd rounders. It gives us a young asset plus frees up ice time for younger players. I'd like to see Emelin get a lot of PK time in Gill's role.

Gill is so overrated here.
It's a miracle if we find a way to get rid of him (a 7th D who earn between 2 and 3M$ per year). I would take a 6th or 7th round pick for Gill
