Cal O'Reiily placed on waivers

Cal O'Reilly was placed on waivers by Phoenix.
Anyone follow Phoenix games, that might know what role he was playing there ( ice time, power play ).
Does anyone think he will clear, or get picked up by another team? Not saying you guys would need him in any way!

FYI, it's being discussed here: http://hfboards.com/showpost.php?p=4...&postcount=538

But I think some desperate team may take a gamble on him. Pretty amazing Poile actually got a draft pick out of him though.

Looks like he cleared.

At first, I was kinda surprised. Until I realized that there is no way that PHX is paying someone over a million dollars to play in the AHL. They will most likely put him on re-entry to buy-him out. I think we would be stupid to not pick him up at half price ($525,000)

Guess no one was THAT desperate

Not surprised though. Guy is gonna need to sign a two way contract if he wants to stay in the mix

they cant buy him out mid-season. they may put him on reentry hoping sopmeone will claim him but it probably wont be us

The problem with us picking him up even at half salary for half a year is we have to put him on the NHL roster and I dont think he's a better option than anyone we have on the roster right now so we'd be paying him to be a healthy scratch which is really not something this team can afford to do. If we tried to send him to Milwaukee he'd be subject to waivers again.

why would we waste half a mil? who would he replace in the lineup? He would get no PP time. No Pk time.

Seems to me the only way he fits on this roster is Centering the 4th line, which means Smitty's spot - cause he sure isn't taking time from Hals or Smith, nor is he better than Bourque, who'd be the option if we moved Smith up.
