Gill is so overrated here.
It's a miracle if we find a way to get rid of him (a 7th D who earn between 2 and 3M$ per year). I would take a 6th or 7th round pick for Gill
You would have probably taken the same for Cammalleri...just glad you're not GM.
Habs fans are always over rating their players, if you guys think Gill can fetch a second rounder, you are dreaming. At least be realistic in your expectations.
Gill is going to fetch a 2nd rounder, at least.
Gill has been underrated here, i don't know what buddy above is talking about. He's one of best PK'ers in the league. Easily. PO monster.

The buddy above is saying that Gill is not the player he used to be, is on the decline, his icetime has been diminishing. Yes he is good on the PK but thats pretty much it. If the Habs were to go out and get Gill for a second rounder, the boards here would crash.

Like buddy above you said we got a 1st and prospect for rivet, which i doubt anyone expected that. Gill is on the decline, yes , and has been for a bit, but if there is interest, 2nd rounders are thrown around alot on trade deadline, and if team needs serious PK skills, they will dish out 2nd rounder easy, especially if there are more then 1 team bidding.
You have to think, a 2nd round pick from the team acquiring him is going to be 60th overall (at least that's what the trading team should expect) so it's not unreasonable by any means.
If I had to venture a guess, he's going to go to an Original Six contender for depth. I'm going to guess Chicago but I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to Toronto since they're PK is horrid. Yeah I realize they're not a contender but with a better PK, they would make the playoffs and that's all you really need to do to have a shot!
Guys like Tanguay, Wiz get 2nd round picks. How in God's name would Gill get us a 2nd??
We'd be lucky to get a 3rd for him. The man is horrible, he's probably playing his last games in the NHL, and is solely a PK player.
If we get a 2nd rounder it would be an absolute steal.
Agreed.
Even Mackenzie said the team isn't negotiating with him for next year so either we get a little bit at the deadline or nothing after the season ends.
My guess would be a fourth round choice, at the most.

Playoffs team look for character players and role players for the po... Gill fits both criteria : one of the best penality killer in the league and a known leader : he'll fetch AT LEAST a 2nd rounder.
If PG can get a 2nd round pick for Hal Gill, it would be great, but I doubt it happens. It's only Hal Gill guys (sorry!) and he becomes a UFA on July 1st.
To put him on on the PK you must have a place for him at the blueline and I don't think so many teams want to make a room for Hal Gill in their D-corp...
He play 10 minutes for us right now (a team with a very weak defence, and 12th in the standings).
How a contender team can be so interested by this guy ? Maybe as 7th D and it's not worth a 2nd pick
I do think we can get a 2nd round pick for Gill. Teams at the deadline overpay and the PK in the playoffs is very important.
The way I see it there would probably be 10 teams looking to trade for Gill, all offering up 3rd round picks. Might be one of the teams decides to bite the bullet and ensure they get him.
It's the same with Moen, but I think his value is higher.
If you're a team that thinks you can win the cup don't you want to overpay a bit to get Moen because if 15 guys throw in offers that are similar to yours the odds yours gets chosen isn't that great. No point nickel and diming really.
I think Moen is a sure fire choice to be traded to Vancouver. They are short on cap space and he will be able to be fit in and he's exactly what they need.
It is a catch 22 though becuase you want to trade the guys at the deadline when their values might be higher, but also trade guys so that your team finishes as poorly as possible? Poor Randy
geez... really guys ? a 1st rounder ? For Gill ??? I can't believe it's even being mentioned...
The guy just can't play any significant minuts 5 on 5 anymore. He's still great PKing but the rest of the time, his place is on the bench ; especially for a contender.
I'll keep this thread in mind for the deadline ; for me a 2nd (in 2012 for a change) would be quite the accomplishment. A 3rd would be fine and I'm not sure we'll even do that well...

Who said 1st rounder? That's ludicrous and any mentally sane fan knows that's not going to happen.
It is not unreasonable to believe he'll fetch a 2nd round pick though. Look at this recent playoff track record. He was instrumental in Pittsburgh's cup run on the PK, and him and Gorges literally carried the Habs to the ECF when it came to penalty killing.
If the market isn't there I'd be fine with a 3rd rounder or even a mid level prospect but a 4th would be insulting.
I think Gill is worth a 4th rounder, just like Campoli.
If numerous teams are truly interested in his services, it will create competition between them and Montreal will have the luxury of choosing the best offer. I would be shocked if the best offer on the table is a 4th rounder.
Jordan Caron seems to be falling out of favor in Boston (based on comments by Bruins fans on this site). The Bruins window for contending is right now.
Would Hall Gill + Travis Moen for Jordan Caron and Maxim Sauvé or a 3rd round pick be someting appealing for both clubs? Bartkowski is also a Bruins prospect that I like that could be made available.

Sure, and as bad of a season we are having and as bad as our D is, Gill's ten minutes are mostly PK time. Where do we stand with our P.K? 1st or second at least. Gill has a lot to do with that. I'd be selling that to the trading partner for sure.
I could see a second pick. Teams have given that for specialists in the past. whether it be a 4th liner faceoff guy or 3rd line checker etc.......
