Nicklas Backstrom(Min) at the Draft

Could Minnesota get a 1st rounder or for him at the draft with 1 year and $6M remaining on his contract? I'd like to see the Wild resign Harding for 2-3 years and go with Hackett after that.

It's already deleted.

Edit: Nevermind, couldn't find it. This will likely become the main thread now.

Backstrom's content with the Wild, and I doubt anyone will give up a 1st for an player who's 1.) unsigned, and 2.) unproven in the playoffs.

If anyone is leaving, I'd say it's Harding vying for the starting position somewhere.

I'd say Hackett needs more AHL experience. Having him as a backup for the Wild would be detrimental to his development.

Backstrom has an NTC with unknown terms.

I don't think his value is a first though. Varlamov netted 1st + 2nd as a goaltender of the future under team control for at least 4 years. I'd think Backs' value tops out at about a 2nd, if that high.

Washington's Backstrom is spelled Nicklas with a C
Minnesota's Backstrom is spelled Niklas with no C

What he said.

Not sure what the market for a 33-year-old goalie with one year left on his contract would be.

Market for goalies might be pretty brutal this offseason, mind you. Assuming Minnesota re-signs Harding, LA has Bernier to unload, Canucks have either Schneider or Luongo to get rid of, and if Calgary finally comes to its senses and rebuilds, then they have Kipprusoff to deal.

Don't forget that Vokoun is going to be UFA again, and looking for a big deal.

With that scenario, only Tampa, CBJ, maybe NJ (if Brodeur retires), maybe the Caps (assuming they don't go to Holtby/Neuwirth) and maybe NYI (if they don't believe DiPietro/Montoya is their future) have significant holes at G.

He's a pretty good goalie.

If Colorado gave up a first and a second/third for Varlamov, I think a team would give a 1st for Backstrom if they were going for a playoff push.

I had it correct, but they deleted the thread. Thanks anyway.

Bakstrom is a fine goalie he's putting up good numbes with his team being one of the lowest scoring teams in the league, he's quite good mentally able to bounce back really well after being pulled.

i don't think a 1st is out of the question for him if he is willing to go there.

personally if Hackett can play well in the coming days i see Harding being shipped for an upgrade at D and hackett being groomed by Backs.
