Milbury disects Habs management/team

Is this true? I've been busy this year and haven't seen many games. I know Price hasn't been as good this year as he was last year, but "below average"? Any merit in this?

Montreal's goaltending has been good, not great.

That said, Milbury dosn't know shet.

No, Price has been solid. His number aren't fantastic because the team in front of him is a mess.

Price has been solid, but hasn't stole any games...that being said, we don't score enough to win...not much goaltending can do there...

Oh, and Milbury

He hasn't been as good as last year.

If you watch the games, cleary he has been above average even though his numbers might not suggest it.

Goalie is a very weird position to judge, the timing of the goals and even rebound control affect a lot. That said Price is 25th in GAA and Sv%, but 5th in Saves overall.

He can definitely play better but losing is the one thing that destroys any goalie's stats. The team in front of him has got to give him better goal support and he'll respond in kind.

Pekke "49m/7years" Rinne has been worse than Price in almost every category. Brings a smile to my face.

Absolutely right. We need to trade our Below average goaltending for a joke return. The Milbury way!

Pretty much this.

Put it this way: if you were to make a list of the Habs' problems this year, Price's name would be somewhere near the bottom.

I guess Price being merely above average instead of consistently great is a problem, the same way having a stuffed nose is still a problem if you have cancer.

Thanks guys. I've been rebuilding the Habs in my head all week and it all comes down to Price.

Another question: be completely honest, do you guys think he wants to be in Montreal long-term? My hunch is he doesn't. I know he's an RFA so we've got him for a few more years, but if he's going to bolt as a UFA eventually, I wonder if we're not better off trading him now while his value is still so high?

If I was GM, I'd find out who wanted to make a long-term commitment to the team and a re-build. Those who don't I'd move a.s.a.p. and get this thing started right away.

On the contrary, I think he would be happy to stay. His best buddy Gorges just re-inked for six years, a six year deal is probably in the offing for Price as well. Not a chance he is moved.

That is exactly what I would have said.
Price has been good but not fantastic. The added pressure caused by the fact that he has virtually no margin for error is certainly not stranger to his somewhat diminished performance.

The "goaltending" as in team ability to stop shots has been subpar this season. How much that's the fault of a brutal, inexperienced, injured and playing roles they weren't intended to defense and how much its Price not being as great as last season is up for debate. However old and slow last year's Hamrlik, Spacek and Gill were they knew their positional defense cold. Can't expect that from rookies and Kaberle has never had that.

Maybe we can wait until the middle of tonight's game and then pull Price off the ice and trade him and a 2nd for Mike Cammaleri and a 5th.

Good to hear. He just seems a little passive-aggressive in his interviews some times (understandably).

If we have him, Subban, Pax and Eller on-board for the next 10 years or so, I can endure the current misery and feel (fairly) optimistic about the future.

Below Average? Not really. They haven't been stellar, but they've been good on most nights and average on others.

Imagine the situation. Carey is traded early into the third period, Budaj comes to finish the match and he gets hurt later.

No goalie to finish the match.

JM did coach a style that helped Price out a lot, this year the team didn't have the right parts to start the season so this is why the train wreck in my opinion. Price is a great goalie he could step onto any of the contending teams in the NHL and they would be as good or better.

I think its important that this team turns around reasonably fast so they can entice him to stay, he is a key to winning an eventual cup and is still exceptionally young.

Bottom line:

He is not the only good goalie in the league... meaning he is replaceable.

Not that I want him gone
