Can someone explain what happened with what appeared to me to be a high hit on Boyle(?) that resulted in a Maple Leafs PP? I was watching it on mute, saw the hit, said that it looks suspension/major worthy, and was fairly bewildered when we went on the penalty kill.

Boyle played like Joel Otto tonight. So dominant defensively. Guys on CBC were drooling over him.

Looked clean during the replay... Boyle was not leaning forward and had his head back, and his head was no the point of impact...

Penalty was for too many men

When Boyle touched it, the whistle was blown for a too many men penalty on us.

The hit was perfectly clean. Boyle had his head down and Phaneuf hit him square, and head on.

Such a rewarding game tonight for the fans with the way this team skated and finished their checks.... Treat to watch.... Great rebound game after being shutout...

As I said before I DVR'ed this game, Toronto doesn't have much beyond a few speedy guys up front and Phaneuf. Rangers played great as a team, I though McDonagh isn't getting enough love on this board, he really controlled the back end and had two assists.

Everyone hated Tortarella's lines before the game, but Mitchell did quite well digging the puck, Boyle and Prust as a third line was superb, Anisimov-WW-Rupp did well on the 4th line (not that it mattered, game was well in hand, but why didn't Anisimov shoot rather than pass -he takes too long to decide what to do).

POTG:
1. Boyle
2. McDonagh
3. Biron

Hon Men - Prust, Stepan

1 assist. 18 points in 42 games now. On pace for 30+.

Phaneuf hit Boyle. It was clean...ish. Maybe a fraction of a second late. In open ice.

The penalty was too many men on the ice.

Stand corrected - but he had a great game. Canadiens activated Scott Gomez for tomorrow.

This was another solid win. Against a team that has been giving us fits this season. In their rink.

Character win.

Still want Dubinsky and Sauer back, though.

Watch Gomez end his 50-something goal draught.

Thanks Wolfgaze. There sure were a ton of bodies in front, it must have been guided by someone above. Boyle`s arms up gesture reminded me of Dubinsky and his first goal.

im as happy as anyone that we got a W tonight and also a shutout at that. but at the risk of being a Debby Downer, umm Gaborik has 1 point in his last 8 games. this bothers me.

In a season when we have played as a team as we have, I can't bring myself to focus on individual production.

As long as we win, I couldn't care less who scores.

I'm sure Gabby will be just fine.

To Phaneuf's credit, it was a great open-ice hit. Boyler played great tonight, I was really happy with him.

Didn't watch the game, went out drinking instead.. I know, I know.
3rd game this season I have missed, the other two were losses.

How did Wolski look, and is Feds injured? What happened?

That 1 point was an overtime SNIPE against the Panthers that earned us a point in the standings.

And he earned us another point by extending the shootout against Phoenix.

I think we're nitpicking here. He's been fine. Can't score a goal every night. Going to have a few bumps in the road over the course of a season.

Wolski looked okay in limited action...made a nice pass on a tic-tac-toe 3-on-1 goal, but then didn't see much ice time in the 3rd when Torts shortened the bench

Feds took one shift in the 2nd and then left with back spasms. Status is unknown for tomorrow.

Didn't see what happened to Feds, I'm curious myself, didn't see him get hit or anything.

Wolski was OK, just OK - did have a second assist on Rupp's goal, didn't make any glaring errors, on a night where Rangers really controlled the game, he was barely noticeable.

Funny that you brought up the name Joel Otto. I've thought of that comparison multiple times over the last few weeks with Boyle struggling to find the back of the net.

I don't want to say Boyle's 21 goals last season were an abberation, because he did put up offensive numbers in college and the AHL. He has some skill offensively. But last season he was seeing a lot more ice-time with all the injuries that we had. There were some games where he was our 2nd line center. Do I think he can consistently score 20 goals? No. But he's certainly better than the 3 or 4 goals he has this season. Which brings me to Otto. If Boyle can be that 3rd/4th line center who chips in 10-15 goals and 30-35 points a year while checking the other team's top lines, playing physical, winning key face-offs and being a stud on the PK, well that is a valuable player to a team.

Otto had a lot more nastiness to his game than Boyle, but the comparison is not a bad one at all.
