He's injured. And would you really bring up MZA to replace a guy like Feds?

I'm fine with Newbury. I don't expect him to score but at least in Fedetenko he's not replacing a big scorer. Newbury plays with a lot of grit and is decent on face-offs. He'll drop the gloves with anyone.

Newbury is okay. He certainly fits the team's identity. Hopefully Dubinsky is back and we don't even have to see him.

For those asking--MZA had hurt his foot/ankle and missed the past month. He came back a few nights ago and at the end of the game re-injured himself.

Kid had 23 points in 42 games (over 0.5 PPG), got demoted to the AHL, injures himself, recovers, then re-injures himself.

Time for a change of scenery.

Got hurt again with 10sec left of his comeback game probably missing the all-star game

He just doesn't have the size or grit to play even close to the game we are playing on a nightly basis. It's just not there and it can't be taught.

...and apparently he's injured.

Not going to bring up Zuccarrello or JAM or Bourque. I guess Deveaux could have been a possibility. No reason to cut Christensen's 2 week conditioning short. He's useless on the 4th line.

Not expecting Newbury to play much, but they needed a body and he fits the role well.
Zucc hurt, JAM on an ECHL-AHL two way contract, and Bourque far from good enough for the NHL.

I think they would have called up Zucc if he'd been healthy for a bit of time before the injury. If he'd didn't get reinjured, I still don't think he'd been called up so soon after coming back from one either. But he should obviously be the next in line, even for a third line, perhaps with Hagelin and Mitchell who he had good chemistry with in Whale.

I've always liked Newbury, he's never been a liability on the ice, knows the game, and is tough as hell. With that said, I see him staying up until the Boston game where he'll be inserted into the lineup and replace Wolski assuming that one of Dubi/Feds is still out.

Seems like madness that a coach that only looks for jam in a player doesn't sign and call up JAM. How can his gut not tell him to get this done?

maybe because JAM isn't signed by the rangers so he can't be called up

Sorry--but Newbury is more the prototypical bottom liner than MZA is. The problem is some people think there's just no chance he's going to score--so if he can't help the offense why bother?--well, there's less chance that he's going to be outmuscled and hurt the defense than in MZA's case. Kris has played 17 games for us so far--a lot with limited ice time. He's had 5 fights in those 17 games, he's been good on face offs and hasn't hurt the team on the defensive end of things. He might not be a great player but you can get pretty much depend on what you get.

Forget the fact a coach doesn't sign or call up players...

-3 in about 6 minutes of ice time tonight . Hopefully Dubi is back against Nashville. Newbury belongs in the AHL.

I noticed that. Funny how one player can have such a big impact. Dubi should be back Tuesday..i hope

It should fix up the lines anyway

This thread should read "Newbury sent back to Whale" not "Newbury called up". He was a liability last night. We missed Dubi and Feds last night bad!!

He was putrid.

The funny thing is - we've all been worried about our defense depth with all the injuries, when it's becoming more and more apparent that we're stretching our forward talent awfully thin...

Can't believe we don't have any better options for a strong big guy to work the boards.

With Kris Newbury sent to AHL after recall for last night's NYR game, appears that Fedotenko or Dubinsky (or both) will play Tues vs Preds
