Tony Marinaro's Ego

Man, what is with this guy?

His whole TSN radio show has become a repetition of how he is soooo right and everyone else is wrong.

"I told you so... blah, blah..."

Anyone else find him unbearable to listen to?

Yes. I caught him in a lie(where he promoted one idea one day and then the next day hated on the organization for the same idea he promoted) once on the radio 2 years ago and called him out on it.

He replied by saying "I must have been on pills had I said that" and then cut me off in the middle of my next point.

I agree. He always had a big ego but I find that it's gotten much worse over the past year or so. I also hate how he constantly speaks over callers and rarely gives them a chance to finish their point.

It's almost always like that at 990 and it's why stopped listening to it a couple of years ago. It's borderline propoganda at this point where they don't allow the proper expression of dissenting opinions and when you do you either get cut off, belittled or ganged up on by the rest of the crew.

He's a hack. He appeals to the dumbest, broadest demographic - listen to him and his mind-numbing drivel at your own mercy.

That said, all of this - hfboards, media attention, fans, etc - is built upon a spectator sport catered to our primal feelings... Of course it's going to attract low, pathetic people - they're a part of the crowd.

He blocked me from his twitter account only because i sent him an "LOL" after 100% guaranteeing us that Markov would resign for 2 years at 5.5 or close. His ego's bigger then Montreal and his show has gone from informative to pure annoyance.. Im done with that fake.

I should add, in all fairness to Marinaro, that when the Habs are winning or they look like they may be on an upswing, his views and opinions are much more bearable... and even interesting at times.

Perhaps this losing season is bringing out the worst in everybody.

I remember him from the time where he went on that brain dead boston radio show during the playoffs, and he actually stooped to their level. I never heard him since.

Marianaro's shtick:

"I don't speculate.."

*Spends next 3 hours speculating.*

Biggest hypocrite on the 990, and even more full of himself than Melnyck.

definitely hard to listen to, but i think its somewhat symptomatic of the profession.

most of the "top" guys (at least in market share & salary) are arrogant and have massive ego's (think mike richards, bob mccown, jim rome), so all the wanna be's trying to build a name and reputation for themselves in the hopes of emulating their success, tend to err on the side of too much arrogance/ego than the opposite.

calgary sports radio has gotten so bad i simply can't listen to it anymore. they had one guy who was pretty good, kept things balanced and didn't act like his opinion was the word of god, but he's moved on to do TV stuff, and the guys who have replaced him are unbearable.

the best guys (including Rome and Richards) at least manage to be funny enough that you can ignore the arrogance, but the average guy (be it montreal, toronto, vancouver, or various ESPN guys) are just obnoxious blow hards... shame b/c i like good sports talk but it's becoming increasingly difficult to find.

What do you mean he gave us Sal? Sal was so pissed that he decided to call in and Tony just happened to be the one hosting at that time.

Had a chance to hear him on TSN radio yesterday and couldn't believe his ego. After he finished talking about himself, there wasn't much time left for anything else. He couldn't even be honest about losing his contact in the dressing room when Cammalleri was traded.

People around here don't like him because he is critical of the team.

Honestly, I love listening to him. He's entertaining... which is exactly what I'm looking for when listening to sports radio.
