Seriously, we should have seen potential problems back in November

I hate to bring this up because hindsight is always 20/20 but that game at home, when they lost to the Bruins after blowing a lead, and everyone was as pleased as punch in the locker room talking about what a great effort they gave and how if they gave that effort every night going forward they would be good to go.

I am not discounting the injury factor. That has been troublesome, however, that night in Novemeber, I never saw a team more pleased with themselves after blowing a lead at home.

I can't get that out of my head.

This isn't meant as a pile on the Sabres thread but the team to me showed a whole lot of mental weakness with the way they acted after that game.

Great point.

And, predictably, we haven't seen anything close to that effort since.

One and done.

So what you're saying, is that DR should have sent a couple core guys packing back in November.

Gee, I wonder what the threads said we should do back then, or last year, or a couple years ago. So tired of watching this horrible core. I actually like watching Ellis, as he atleast hustles. They suck. Loosing to the Islanders

When they were in first place in the division in mid-November, they should have blown up the roster and sold high.

Got it.

Can we please stop pretending this team was not physically and mentally soft before the Lucic hit?

On the bright side, I'm pretty sure we got control of the puck after Lucic ran Miller. We therefore won that battle, according to the principles of the Ruff School of Performing Ice Arts.

As far as the OP's main point, yes, I agree, players needed to be a bit less sanguine about losing the rematch. I guess they were just happy to emerge from the game relatively unscathed.

And conversely, the Lucic hit was all for nothing and had no effect on the game, since the Bruins didn't win the puck battle. Just goes to show that this thuggery and brutish behavior - imposing your will on your opponent, wearing them down, and physically dominating them - has absolutely no effect in a civilized gentleman's game like ice hockey.

That's some air-tight logic you've got there Lindy. Air. ****ing. Tight.

Pegula should use some of his cash to hire Tarry Tate and teach him how to skate.

Let him roam around on the ice at practice, hang out in the locker room between periods, or stand behind the bench as an assistant during games.

With players and the problems with Lindy were evident in 2006-07 with the team playing 8-10 good minutes a game.

I missed that.

Shoot, I got shouted down when I called Stafford's 2010-11 a contract year mirage and that they should move him while his value was high as opposed to re-signing him long term and expecting him to keep producing at last year's clip.

Personally, I'm hoping that Ruff hates the Rochester Core and that's why he named them all captains this season.

I hope the season blows up, Ruff has a meeting with Pegula, Black, and Regier and goes something like this:

Then, hopefully, they will start re-tooling the lineup with the type of players than win in today's NHL.

I think we need a coach with Jim Harbaugh energy. You see that guy yesterday? Wow.

Uhhh no but I was saying that a bunch of these guys are over achievers and should be shipped out. I've never been high on this entire core in terms of them being able to lead this team to a cup.

I've never been high on Stafford. Hes too streaky just like just about every other goal scorer we've had in here lately.

It shows you what an innovative and motivativing coach can do with a team.....the 49ers were 6-10 last year and havent had a winning season since 2002. This year under Harbaugh they were 13-3.

That rant was about Vernon Davis. You realize how that turned out to be ironic, right?

No doubt.

Herm Edwards isn't a great coach, but his "You play to win the game. Hello?!?!?!?" rant is still awesome, too!

This team has had problems since the current core took over in 07-08. I'll admit hindsight is 20/20, but Darcy should've known that this team still needed some veteran presence that would keep them consistent and honest. Grier, Rivet, and Nieds were probably Buffalo's worst overall players last year, but they were arguably the most important considering what they brought to the locker room.

At the end of the day, they placed too much faith in a core of players who've proven that they can't win without veterans around them forcing them to play consistent. It's mind boggling to me that they still believed in them after what happened. Now it looks like it will cost them the season.

10-5 before the Lucic hit, 9-14-5 since. Pretty definitive line there.

Except of those 10 wins, there were only about three where the team played well collectively. The team hasn't been exciting/playing good hockey since October. And I mean early October.

Good point. That Bruins game didn't inaugurate the team's death spiral (I think we were already heading downhill), but it definitely prodded it along quite a bit.

That may be true but they had more wins in the first 15 games than they've had in the last 29. They may of not been playing great but they were still playing noticeably better then than they are now.

EDIT: Just noticed my math was really bad. 9-15-5 in their last 29 and not 5-14-5 in their last 24.

Maybe part of that rant made Vernon Davis "man up" and start playing the way he should play. I'm not sure but I can tell you those 49ers are a different team under Harbaugh...

Hmmm... that's an interesting thought. Players playing to their ability and more under a new coach.
