Koivu (Shoulder, out for at least a month)

Decided to start a new thread for this, since no one else has.

Bye bye playoffs, welcome lottery picks. Now the question is do I want to pay for gamecenter for the rest of the season? I really don't know. I like Bruins too though.

Yeah, Koivu is out. It sucks.

But will all you ****ing ultrapessemists at least wait to see how the team responds in Philly and Toronto before throwing in the towel?

Honestly I think this is good for the team long term. We've all seen what happens to the team when Koivu goes down. This is their chance to either show they've learned how to fill that leadership vacuum and play without him, or take the time to learn how to do it.

Yeah, we lose a lot with Koivu, but if the team can dig deep and work to fill in the hole rather than just throwing in the towel, and we can play a little above .500, we're still in this in a month when he comes back.

Then again, if he is injured very seriously, it might be best just to have surgery and get him healthy for next year. At which point the whole rest of the season becomes an exercise in winning without Koivu.

As for trades, well, I certainly hope that GMCF is still planning on sticking to the plan and not going to firesale the prospects unless that one golden trade comes along where it would actually be worth it to trade a strong possibility for a proven sure thing. But I highly doubt that trade will materialize.

More likely is a trade for depth at center for peanuts. Someone to fill the void at third or fourth line when everyone moves up a line.

I know it looks bad, and there is a very strong possibility that this is the week where the season stops spiraling the drain and actually goes down it, but I'm going to reserve judgment until I see how the Wild respond to this latest adversity in Philly and Toronto.

Yeah, I'm most likely going to be blowing up Eddy Xmas Disaster style sometime this week, but I'm gonna wait to do it rather than just call it all done before the engine has actually blown up on this car were in with no wheels left.

it really depresses me we have to lean on 1 player all season long in hopes of making playoffs, i just wonder what kind of toll that takes on mikko.

we need players to take some of the pressure off of him.

Anxious to see who steps up in his absence, if anyone at all. Koivu can't be our only kickstand anymore.

based on history we are most certainly ****ed sideways but we can all pray and hope the team collectively steps up. we all know no one guy will replace koivu but if they pull as a team we might be able to

So, RIP 2011-2012 season?

Anyways, like we mentioned before the season started, playoffs would have been a nice bonus this season.

Let's not kid ourselves here...the Wild started tanking before Mikko got hurt the first time. They lost two straight before Mikko went out, and have only one once in regulation since December 10th. Mikko played in 11 of those 15 games.

So, now that we're basically boned...

Who's worth selling at or near the deadline?

I would entertain offers for Seto (I just plain don't like him, he's not streaky, he's just not that special IMO).

We know we need to get rid of Zanon.

We likely want to get rid of Zidlicky.

A lot of people see Brodziak go, but I'd like to keep him around to anchor our 3rd line for a good while.

Who knows what we might be able to get for Harding, but if we're sticking with Backstrom, he deserves a shot at starting elsewhere... Personally, I'd love to keep him, but I can't see him signing to sit behind Backstrom again.

And my probably really unpopular opinion... I think we need to entertain offers for Clutterbuck. He's been REALLY ineffective this year, seems VERY timid, and isn't taking even remotely good shots anymore. I really think we could get a top-15 pick for him, and I think we should genuinely consider it...

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I think this is our sign to sell off whatever dead weight we can.

So you say the freefall started at 2 losses in a row? Yeah the injury had nothing to do with it getting worse, man we were so desperate at that 2 loss point.

The free fall started more than a month ago...

wild did lose two straight before he went down but we went from a neck in neck game vs chicago losing in shootout because of no koivu to a team getting bent over and resembling TR Wild. Sure since he's been back it hasn't gone as hoped but the entire team after he went down fell apart and hasn't put it self together for more then a few periods at a time

Trade off Zidlicky, Zanon, and one of Backstrom/Harding.

So losing koivu makes the team worse but getting him back doesn't make it better?

Also, wellman skating with darby and staubitz...if that's not a white flag I don't know what is.

Nope.

They lost at Winnipeg, then Mikko went out. Only one loss while Mikko was in, and that was a relatively hard fought game that was lost by a single goal and very nearly went to OT.

Revisionist history is always a failure.

Well...we lost Mikko at the very end of OT in the Chicago game so that one counts too.

He left before the game was final, therefore it occurred after he left. Also, including either of those games in the losing streak is asinine at best, and pretty ignorant if you're trying to make a legitimate argument rather than just a shock value claim.

Nope. Doesn't look like the Wild will have any representatives either.

I asked Russo on twitter, he says it wasn't the shoulder that Koivu previously injured, which is good news. I can't see the NHL not having one Wild representative at the ASG.
