Isn't the next game on Friday for the Marlies? If so, practicing with the Leafs >>> Marlies.
I don't know, practicing with Eakins would probably be better for Gardiner . It's not 'rope' practice though.

In the end sounds like pretty boring normal stuff. Boyce with injury, someone will go out so Gardiner can play an NHL game in 2012, etc.

So he could get some game action after sitting in the press box for a while.

Maybe to get some much needed ice time in.

If you are going to have your farm team one mile away you should use that to the advantage of the Leafs, Marlies and Gardiner. Otherwise they should have left them in St Johns.

From the Leafs Twitter

Ron Wilson: Reimer starts tomorrow. Gardiner will be back in the lineup. Boyce will not play due to a minor injury #Leafs #NHL

Get some game action? Was in Toronto and Marlies played nearby. All I can think of, and save some $$.

Can't even guess one on your own? Take "just for the hell of it" out of the possibilities and work from there.

Why is it not obvious that this was done for Gardiner?
He goes to the Marlies knowing it's only for one game. Shakes off any rust, and gets back into the mindset of playing instead of watching. Since he's going to get called back up, there's not so much worry of making mistakes either. I wasn't able to watch the game, but I hope he took the opportunity to take a few more chances and show why he was such a good NCAA player. Not every move the team makes is part of some grand scheme. Sending him down for one game does not magically give us the ability to acquire Ryan Getzlaf or anything like that.
