Why is it not obvious that this was done for Gardiner?
He goes to the Marlies knowing it's only for one game. Shakes off any rust, and gets back into the mindset of playing instead of watching. Since he's going to get called back up, there's not so much worry of making mistakes either. I wasn't able to watch the game, but I hope he took the opportunity to take a few more chances and show why he was such a good NCAA player. Not every move the team makes is part of some grand scheme. Sending him down for one game does not magically give us the ability to acquire Ryan Getzlaf or anything like that.
