Jagr Trade?

I just posted on another thread that a friend in DC said that he'd heard a rumor that JJ was going to Montreal. That it came from some Czech sport or news publication.

Anyone know anything on this?

Hey Caps fans.. I really don't know about that "rumor" but here's a Czech link I think.. I don't understand a damn thing about it but we never know...

Let's wish it's not true

I have heard this rumor bouncing around in Montreal.
Jagr for koivu and brisebois
or
Jagr for koivu ans sourey.

I would be stunned if this happened.

any conversation on jagr that does not include the rangers i find hard to believe.

I really doubt that Gainey is willing to give Jagr 11M$ per year with Montreal too!

Well, from a Montreal fan standpoint, I agree that it is hard to believe this trade would happen. Gainey has always been a heart and soul type of player and Jagr is sort of known as a heartless and soulless player so why Gainey would even make a move to try and acquire him is beyond me. Even a step further in that direction... Koivu IS the heart and soul of this club so trading him away seems a little odd if you ask me.

Besides, do you Washington fans see this as a viable trade? Are you interested in Koivu and Brisebois? Last I heard, your d-corps was not on the list of priorities for needing improvement but I could see why you'd be interested in Koivu. Seems like the type of player that would fit in well with your system.

The only reason I see this happening is $$$. And if Montreal has a second trade in the works once they acquired Jagr. Though I have to admit, his talent sure is a thing of beauty to watch. It's just too bad he's such a selfish player.

Here are a couple of reasons why this trade might happen if the financials could be worked out.
1. Montreal ranks 25th in goals for per game. Koivu is a good but he is not a big goal scorer, 21 his best. Jagr would be a big change in that area.
2. Jagr wants to play someplace were star hockey players are stars. Montreal is such a place.
3. These kinds of trades usually take more than a conversation or two to get worked out. If this has been in the works for a while it would explain why the Caps have traded Konowalchuk and not replaced him with another captain at a time when they need leadership. Even though, Koivu is a crap shoot in terms of number of games played, he is a certain leader. In fact you could argue that the Caps have had a hole in their heart since Dale Hunter retired. The Caps can get there goals elsewhere.
4. The Capitals would get defensive help immediately if they could move
Jagr. Part of the Capitals offensive problems is that Gonchar is the only defenseman that has anything to offer offensively at even strenth. Brisebois might be a good fit.
how's that for starters?

I'd do that deal. In fact, I'd do it straight up for just Souray.

As a Hab fan, I'd like it but only if it was something like Perreault+Brisebois+Dackell instead. The Caps are dying for someone to take Jagr off their hands. Now, if they eat a certain amount of what's left on his 4 years, then it can be arranged. Montreal will take on a few mil, which we can do, and the Caps save a few. Plus, they get some veteran help that the Habs certainly don't need/want as it impedes our youth movement: an accurate shooting faceoff wiz, a PP specialist to go with Gonchar (plus, you can always trade him if it doesn't work out because next year his no-trade clause is finito) and a defensive forward. They aren't tough guys, but hey-if you wanna ditch Jagr. Having Jagr play with Koivu will reinvigorate Jaromir. I just hope he isn't around long enough to destroy team unity and a coach or two.

It's like not sacrificing our youth all that much for some scoring dynamo. A line of Ryder-Koivu-Jagr is scary and we can eventually bring Higgins and Katstitsyn into those roles once Jags and Saku are getting out of their prime (they are 31 and 28 as of this year) about 3 years down the road. Still, it can go either way-he sulks and turns into another Sergei Berezin/Marius Czerkawski or goes onto light up the scoring ranks. But it would easily be the biggest catch in terms of a trade since, well, I can't remember-let's just say biggest since acquiring Turgeon, another former 50-goal, 100 pt. guy with noted heart n' soul problems. If this trade involves Koivu, I'll be p!ssed. Even Zednik going would be alright with me, but not Saku.

Then you haven't looked at our d-corps in about 2 years. Last year we just needed 1 big physical-defensive (like a McClaren). This year, we need 2, plus a 2-way type that could replace Johansson until Eminger develops a bit more. Honestly, we could use BOTH Souray and Brisebois... though if I had to choose, it would be Souray all the way. Of course I'd also rather have Perreault than Koivu, and maybe find a way to get Zednik back

Though on the other hand, I've really like Zubrus at center lately, and bringing in Koivu or Perreault would displace him back to wing.

Bottomline though... I really don't see this trade happening. I mean seriously, what would some Czech paper know about a trade between Montreal and the Caps?

And I wouldn't even deal Souray straight up for Jagr, let alone him and Koivu.

Two leaders and examplary players for a soft whinny 11M per problem (the fact he's loaded with talent doesn't compensate nearly enough).

Are you serious hahaha?? Perreault over Koivu?? You would regret this move for years and years to come IMO... Except if you would take Perreault AND Zednick instead of just Koivu....

As an Habs fan, I'd definitively pick Koivu over Perreault.... Without a single doubt!!
