Danny Hobbs a Rangers draft pick is having a solid season at UMASS along with two other seniors TJ Syner who is a speddy small fwd currently 3 in scoring in Hockey East and Also Mike Marcou from Kings Park NY he is a excellent skater with a big shot from the point currently 2 overall for Hockey east Dmen in goals ,Look for these two to sign with a team at end of season but these would be two nice pick ups for Rangers

Speed, Skill, Size, & Grit. Nice. That's what you want in your prospect cupboard.

Can't find video of Kreider's goal yesterday, but NESN.com might have something at some point since they streamed the game.

Until then, here's a boston globe article that describes the goal:

Quote:
Junior left wing Chris Kreider broke the deadlock on a shorthanded goal at 4:02 on a shot from the left side that eluded Rawlings.

“[Kreider] took the puck wide and then he was going to the net hard,’’ said Rawlings. “He just kind of put the puck on net and I think he took me out. The net came off a little bit but he got a lucky bounce. It went off my stick and he came into me and that’s the last thing I could really see.’’

Kreider said freshman right wing Danny Linell was the catalyst on the play.

“Danny gave me a great pass and kind of put the defenseman in limbo and made it a little harder for him,’’ said Kreider. “I tried to get to the net and to be honest, I don’t really know what happened after that. I guess I kind of ran into the goalie and the puck just kind of squirted in.’’

The pundits said the same things about Jagr.

We all saw what the Rangers coaching staff got out of Jagr when he got here. I'm not in any way suggesting that Kreider has anywhere near the skill Jagr does, but I'm moreorless commenting on the coaching staff's ability to get the most out of a player. Turn pro Chris.

Kreider is listed at 6'2 201 pounds on updated HF rankings but he is listed at 6'3 225 pounds on the USCHO site

Not sure which site is accurate but he is probably somewhere in the middle of these ranges.

Either way, great size for a player who can really skate

Absolutely agree with you. The Rangers now have a very good resume for nurturing good young players. It will be interesting to see how he handles the expectations when they are addressed to him directly. I think he will respond well. I am expecting some big things from Chris Kreider.

Edit: Just to add I was watching the stream and saw the goal. It was a good display of what Kreider can do. Speed, Size, Strength and a bit of Skill tossed in. Just a hard drive to the net which can cause good things to happen. This kid has the goods. It's up to him now.

I think he actually is 220-225 range... Seen a lot more references to that weight than references that state otherwise.... HF's listing is probably from his draft year and outdated.

Well Miller has been in a slump since returning from the WJCs, just 1 assist in 4 games.

St. Croix another prospect who is slumping hard. Zero points in the last 4 games. Now with him I have to think he is playing injured considering before the last 4 games, he only went a total of 5 games without scoring a point since Oct 9th (34 games).

Both Thomas and MSC were scoreless in their teams losses today.

McI has no points and two PIMS going into the third period of his game. His team is up 3-2.

McColgan has no points as well going into the third period of his game as well. His team is up 2-1.

Yeah, HF's is extremely out of date. It was confirmed that he added 20 pounds since he was drafted. 225 is about right.

Miller no points again in his teams 5-1 win.

No worries with JT Miller. It seems it is just a little let down after the WJC. Miller seems like the perfect Torts kind of player. He has some grit with some grit.

Personally, I'd say he's more gritty than gritty.

Consistency is still a problem for him.

Question becomes is he inconsistent because he is young or for other reasons (lack of effort, poor mental game, poor team)?

I believe it is because of the bold. You see it in these short tournaments or big games, he is a horse when he wants to be. I think mentally, he doesn't prepare correctly for each game.

I honestly wonder if Kreider doesn't suffer from what Jesus Montero supposedly suffered from in AAA last year. There were widespread reports from scouts that Montero's numbers were down in the beginning of the year due to the fact that he was "bored" with the game in the minors (i.e. he had a lack of focus due to the fact that his physical skills were so much better than the guys he was playing against). It's a very rare thing for a player - especially a young player - to have the mental discipline to avoid "playing down to your competition" (and/or your teammates).

Whatever it is - boredom, poor coaching, etc. - he can't leave BC soon enough.

But what I am talking about has plagued him for a couple of seasons. He needs to get it under control or he will be in Torts' doghouse very quickly. Bring it every game.....
