Just caught up with the fights. Some really epic knock outs, submissions and the crowd sounded amazing. The Vitor chants were fantastic and when Aldo won it was amazing. The Rumble stand-ups were early compared to what has become the norm, but I have no issue with them.
Sort of wish Joe and Goldberg would have shut up and just let the moment happen with Aldo running into the crowd. It was spectacular. Really happy to see Aldo return to his WEC ways. I think some people were a little iffy on him since he hasn't had the highlight real knockout in the UFC yet. The one tonight was amazing.
Great night for Brazilian Fighters, all but 1 fight was won by a Brazilian.
Last year we had the fight of the year on the first card of the year and this year we have the knockout of the year on the first card. That KO by Barboza was just flat out amazing. You could see Etim thinking to himself, "Spinning back fist, except there's no fist. WTF? Oh no! A foot! *thunk*
I really liked how they ran the show tonight. It was awesome just moving from fight to fight and waiting till the end to show the prelims.

My guess is that they did this because it was late in brazil (three hours ahead of eastern time) and they wanted to make sure people were still awake to tune in for the top two fights. I think in the future it makes more sense to have Brazillian cards at a different time of year--because Brazil's summer is happening now, it's daylight savings time is reversed, and they go from being one hour ahead of eastern to being three hours ahead depending on the time of year.

This, although it could also become the norm with all of the prelims on TV beforehand now. No sense in replaying fights mid-card when people have an opportunity to watch them on TV.
Pretty good card last night! I was somewhat soured on the Aldo win though, it seemed like Mendes finally had Aldo going to the ground but the blatant fence grab stopped it. I don't think it changed the outcome of the fight, but it was a cheesy move on Aldos part.
I was very disappointed in the crowd last night, and even more disappointed to read online that people thought they were great. I noticed laser pointers being flashed at Omigawa, Pyle and Stout.
Extremely dangerous, and it was more than one laser pointer so it wasn't just one rogue idiot. The chants of die, die, die belong nowhere in this sport either.
Same day weigh ins are a problem because fighters would still cut weight--they would just go into fights dehydrated. That would be bad for their health, and give us worse fights as guys gas early. There really is no easy solution to this.

The other problem is that you would have to restructure all of the divisions.
If you were willing to do that I wonder about doing weigh ins in the week leading up to the fight. Maybe something like 3 days before, 1 day before, and the day of.

Then they would lose. Wouldnt take too long before they wouldnt be cutting massive amounts of weight anymore. Which really is the whole purpose of having weight divisions in the first place. Weight cutting is actually an end around the system or cheating if you want to get right down to it.
Another way to eliminate weight cutting is to just get rid of weight classes period. Then we would see "martial arts" as they were meant to be.
ot if size is still an advantage. There's a reason why weigh-ins were moved to a day before an event in boxing. Guys will sacrifice cardio (and their health) for size every time.

Not true. There's historical precedent for this.
