If he is in NJ to make a trade, I doubt it's just a Weber trade. You do those by phone.

There is a player on that team that i've been wanting for a while, Clarkson is pretty much the perfect third liner, can fight, agitates, plays physical and can put some goals. And now we have enough cap space to take on bigger contracts.

Clarkson for Campoli +.

Clarkson - Eller - AK as the third line, and if Moen can play on the first and second line why not Clarkson? He got 15 goals this season.

Kovalchuk makes sense since we take on all big contracts

That's what I said as well on the main board. It could still be a minor deal but if that's the case then you have to think that he will want to see a player in action. I doubt it's for picks only, he could have done that from here

And again, if it was a minor deal, wouldn't he leave that to the scouts to report back ? That's what they're there for. Why would he bother taking a plane to NJ for a minor deal ?

That's funny.

Only Subban opens the door in a Kovulchuk discussion, and if you trade PK the defence is ruined for years to come.

The rest are last pairing or players who will never make the nhl ( at Pateryn)

Maybe he sent his scouts to another game and he went to Jersey. I have no idea maybe he just wants to see the player, so many different things could be the reason

Weber for Tedenby? We need to get a bit smaller.

I'd like something around Weber and David Clarkson, NJ could use some powerplay help and the Habs could use more toughness.

As the others are saying, I would remove Pateryn. But maybe add his fellow Wolverine Mac Bennett. He's seemingly playing good this year and has upside, though he's definitely a long shot.

If its New Jersey, I really doubt its anything big since were in same conference.

Maybe shipping Campoli (for a bottom six forward possibly) there to replace injured Greene?

Or could it be hes just scouting our competition for those final playoff spots, in Winnipeg.

Clarkson is having a very good year and still signed to another year. If there was a time to acquire him it was last year when the Devils were in the same position as we are today. We ain't getting Clarkson IMO the Devils need him going into the playoffs

Anybody thinking we can get Clarkson cheap (Campoli? Weber?) is out to lunch. Clarkson's is exactly the type of player many teams covet, including the Habs. No reason the Devils would trade him unless someone like Subban is offered.

I'd love it if we somehow got Kovalchuk. It's unlikely as hell, but I'd still love it.

Wasn't it just 4 months ago we heard rumors that the Devils finance were in shambles?

Maybe they want to dump us Kovy's contract?

It's not likely, but weirder things have happened.
For once it'll be the Habs landing a superstar in one of these deals, so I doubt it

I don't see why people are crying about Kovalchuk either. He hasn't been a good fit in NJ but I have a feeling we have enough good forwards to fit him in somewhere and have him be the old superstar Kovalchuk. At 6.6 million cap hit, that's insanely good and we can afford the dollars too. I think NJ was expecting to be making the playoffs year after year during his time there not to be fighting for a spot but to be a lock. They are a team I could see needing to make the playoffs for revenue purposes. Kovalchuk is paid a lot of actual dollars, cap hit aside.

I think his cap hit and the type of player he is = perfect fit for us.

6.6 million for an "on" Kovalchuk = FTW.

Also I don't feel it's been Kovalchuk's compete level or effort that has been the problem. I think it's the fit. He isn't a great fit in NJ.

If we lose Subban it better be for a guy like him. Plus this isn't simply a case of a guy like Cammy getting 6 mil and not producing due to lack of size/effort/etc, Kovalchuk is big, puts in the effort and can do things on his own. Adding him to our team would be a very good move. Can't say if it would be at the expense of Subban but maybe with where we are in the standings and the draft being deep on solid D they're considering trading PK+ for Kovalchuk+

NJD gets the cap relief and monetary relief in general, we get a superstar forward capable of 50g/100pt who is young and signed reasonably for the future. Of course you can also do a lot worse than Subban in a trade even if it's for Kovalchuk. We miss the playoffs as a result of having one of the ugliest top 6 D in the NHL, grab a solid pick and do the re-tool Kovalchuk style

I really do love Kovalchuk and think he'd be a solid fit here. Problem is I do see Subban become a norris level defender. I know a lot of people don't but I do. He's 22 years old.

This. I don't think people realize talent wise he's a top 2-3 forward in the NHL. He's had a string of bad games in NJ since going there and hasn't really produced all that well, but if we're turning our team into more of an aggressive forcheck etc he'll fit right in. I'm not going to do a Kovalchuk lineup cause it will never happen but I know our lineup would be devastatingly good on offense if we had him.

A career ~15% shooting percentage? Damn man.
