I wouldn't mind that type of deal as long as we turn around and move Moen and AK for young assets.

I think Darche would be a good fit on a playoff team. In the playoffs a guy like that is much more valuable than a scrapper as there are virtually no fights. In 10-12 minutes he can kill penalities and chip in the odd goal, plus he is a guy that won't whine about ice time on a 4th line.

highly doubt its kostitsyn for Clarkson- doesnt make sense since clarkson is signed for 2 more years after this one with decent cap hit and T its is UFA after this season and makes more than clarkson per season

Would love Clarkson, but NJ has no reason to trade him. Especially not for two UFAs.

The Weber/DeBoer connection is interesting. I can't think of what we'd want from NJ though. Palmieri is interesting and I guess a possibility. Tedenby I can see being on the block and as much as I loved him as a prospect, he doesn't look like what we need at all.

Maybe it's a Price for Volchenkov and Kovalchuck trade

Do any of you guys promoting this trade even watch hockey. Kostitsyn is a better hockey player than Clarkson. Forget about watching just read the freaking stats. this player has less offense than Andrei and has been a -12 & -20 on the $%^& New Jersey Devils.

Jeeze, something tells some of you guys are adrenalin junkies. You want change simply for change.

Parise would be an incredible addition but I don't hold my breath on it happening. And Kostistyn is better than any of the silly players people want to trade him for on a regular basis, I hope he's resigned.

Gauthier needs to be more careful. The net explodes if he's spotted out of town.
He should start wearing a wig, fake mustache and sunglasses.

I was kidding. To be honest, I don't think Darche has any trade value. In my opinion, Blunden is ahead of Darche. And there are many dozens of Blundens in the AHL.

But IF we could get Clarkson, I would try to sign both Moen and AK nonetheless. Moen at 2M or less and AK at 4M or less. I would ejaculate if we could have this bottom 6 next year :

Clarkson-Eller-AK
White-Gaustad-Moen

People who believe that Parise is headed our way without overpaying with someone like Price are seriously delusional.

When was the last time we actually won a major trade?

in either case, I'd expect a 1-for-1 type deal (value-wise), and i don't know that NJ would bite on that.

I'd make the case that Weber (assuming he continues improving) would fill a bigger 2-3 year "need" than either Palmieri or Tendenby (assuming they continue improving).

assuming Emelin/Weber continue to progress and make a big leap over the next 12-18 months, and that markov returns relatively effective, having a defense core for the next 2-3 years of

Subban - Gorges
Diaz - Markov
Weber - Emelin

would be pretty darn good and cap-friendly.

add a veteran depth dman to give competition for the bottom-pairing, and I think we're set.

Allows Tinordi/Beaulieu/Nash/Ellis/Bennet to focus on developing in the AHL, and with that group we have pretty solid call-up options perhaps as early as next year.

up front, neither Palmieri/Tedenby look to be on track to break out as dominant top-6 players in the near future (if at all), and we already have a pretty solid group of solid-but not spectacular- wingers that are in place for the next few seasons (MaxPac/Cole/Bourque/Gionta).

what we need to really get better is adding an elite winger to that group, not so much adding a young guy learning the ropes, especially with Leblanc, and to a lesser extent Palushaj knocking on the door to round out the top-9.

i know i value/appreciate weber more than most, but imo, even a 1-for-1 swap for either of those two guys would do little to help us over the next few seasons, at least not as much as Weber potentially can...

His cap hit is pretty high though at 2.67 mil for a guy that had 18 points last year.

Now that Rene Bourque is here, his contract can be used as a comparable. Bourque has been more successful than Kostitsyn in recent years, so the Habs have grounds to keep his contract reasonably in check. Whether he will take it or not is another thing, if the team even offers him a deal.

PS - here you are back here again. You sure you don't miss the Habs?

Because we could get good return. Plus signing him for 3-4 years leaves little room for Gallagher Kristo Quailer Bournival etc in the top 9. Gionta Pacioretty Cole Bourque are all signed 2 or more years. If you extend Moen and AK for 2 or more years that's 6 top 9 wingers all locked up. May be better off to spend 3.5-4 mil on a big 20 minute shutdown d-man with an edge or a center upgrade(Stoll).
