Benched for one bad shift. At least Bylsma doesn't bench the rest of the team for one bad shift, because he wouldn't have any players left to put out there.

+ Geno: was a freaking wild animal / man possessed out there "INCREDIBLE SKILL STEIGY - MIGHT BE A SUPERSTAR ONE DAY!"

+ While he has hands of stone, Dupuis had a pretty good game / was making things happen.

+ Orpik: hope Skinner is OK but that was a BS knee-jerk call by the refs. Orpik has really stepped up in recent games.

+ Fleiry: great game

+ Neal: was forechecking like a mad man, great puck hound tonight even though no pts

-
--- Errey again: "Although Skinner is feeling a little dizzy tonight..." All right so add to Hobey Baker plane crash jokes, concussion jokes. YAhhhh! Pickle-stabber! ****ing dumbass.

- Refs: Orpik Interference call? ****. Icing call on Skinner? ****. Missed Too Many Men call? ****. I think the refs are completely flustered. The NHL went so overboard on the high hits emphasis that these guys are starting to lose their focus, miss call and sometimes see things that aren't there in an attempt to always be looking out for the high arm, all over the ice.

In cert my response from the other thread. Tight game with no lead. They have a lead Tangradi gets more minutes.

+ Goalies, Malkin, Orpik, Vitale, Niskanen, Michalek

= Martin

- Refs(no calls in the 3rd) just terrible, Skinner hurt, seems OK, We'll see.

I'm just not getting this Tangradi fascination at all. When the best thing you can say about the kid is that he once had a shift where he made a nice power move to the net, then I don't think his ice time should be such a pressing concern. He looks lost out there a lot of the time, especially once the play moves to the defensive zone. And frankly, for his size, he should be winning a lot more battles than he does. I mean don't get me wrong, I'd like him to pan out and be a contributor, but this idea that we need to gift him all this ice time based on absolutely no production is a bit far fetched for me.

I know his statline doesn't reflect it but I actually thought this game for Malkin was every bit as inspired and in some ways even moreso than the last one. You can tell he's really, really feeling it lately. Laying out to block a shot with OT winding down? That was almost as pretty as his goal. I know it doesn't mean anything... but I have no idea how he wasn't the first star of the game.

Fleury and Neal both played great games, I thought. Vitale was a one man wrecking crew all game. Orpik was obviously pretty visible for the right reasons, too. I'm all about cutting dirty hits out of the game... but his hit on Skinner is the exact thing you don't want to see punished. Bush league that it was somehow called interference. You don't want to see Skinner get hurt after just coming back from a concussion (we all know how that goes) but that was completely clean. Skinner should have shown better awareness. I respect the fact that he's trying to make something happen for his team and beat Orpik to a loose puck... but it just isn't very smart to try pushing it ahead and then cutting to the middle of the ice with Free Candy lurking nearby.

I wasn't impressed at all with Sullivan. No surprise there, really. He seemed to make worse and worse decisions with the puck as his shifts wore on. The Martin/Michalek pairing looked kind of ugly all night, too. Particularly Martin. And not just because of the miss (which was kind of a tough play for a defenseman, anyway), either. Kennedy was alright, I guess. I haven't noticed Cooke either good or bad all season. Dupuis had something like 3 billion shots on goal tonight and they were all pretty much harmless. He had a good game otherwise, though.

He's done a lot more than one "shift where he made a nice power move to the net." He's been making things happen almost every time on the ice.

Tonight he was playing well and helping to sustain pressure in the offensive zone on numerous shifts in the 1st period. Then the Pens get a PP, he has a bad shift, and he's benched for the rest of the game.

I said this in another thread, but I'll put it here since it applies...

It's not like he's a liability on the ice. Give him a chance to do something instead of benching him for having one bad shift. I'm sure other players on the team had a bad shift this game and they didn't get the same treatment.

It's clear that they hold him to a different set of standards compared to the rest of the team. If that's the case then send him back down to WBS or trade him. He's being wasted up here.

+ Geno.
+ One of the hardest and CLEANEST hits I've seen in a while. The fact it was penalized was frustrating.
+ Fleury came up big when he had to.

- Horrible clear by the defense on the Harrison goal. I forget who was on the ice for it, but it was bad.
- Martin. He embarrasses himself whenever he tries to shoot
- That ******** delay by Muller & Company.

And yeah, Jeffrey and Dupes created chances, but just couldn't finish.

Dave Molinari @MolinariPG

Orpik, on his interference minor: "The ref said he didn’t think (Jeff Skinner) got the puck, but he saw a replay and apologized after."

+ Orpik
+ Vitale

- hitting...apparently no longer allowed
- 3rd period officiating. How the hell is Jokinen too injured to come back out on that late icing call, but miraculously available in the final seconds, and nearly puts in that bad bounce in front of MAF
- main boards. I can't believe anyone can find any fault with Orpik's hit...

Did I miss something? What did Tangradi do to only get 1 shift in the last 30 minutes?

IMO, Tangradi is getting another one way trip to WBS and your fourth line will be Vitale centering Adams and Asham. Not going to get into the 'what should be' debate, just saying what's going to happen...

Tangradi is good in the offensive zone but I don't like his defensive game at all. He just seems out of position to me a lot.

I'm sure that's Bylsma's chief issue with him and why he didn't play much in the 3rd.

He had a bad shift on the first Pens PP, and was subsequently benched more or less.

Well I agree that Tangradi should be sent back. He's getting wasted up here right now. It doesn't matter how much he does right, if he makes even one mistake, he's going to be given the MacIntyre treatment.

Think someone needs some NyQuil.

If they arent going to give Tangradi a shot then send him back down or trade him.

Seen worse players get more time on the Pens.

Yeah that was a friggin' crime. He was a shoo in for first star, and honestly I think as far as being a force for 60 minutes, that's the closest anyone has looked like Mario since he retired. I mean I love Neal, but #1 star because he had the "game winning" shootout goal? Barf. Not that Neal didn't have a really good game, but still.

Fleury had a really solid game.

As far as Orpik, he had that amazing hit but I believe he also handed the puck right to the Canes twice in the first period leading to prime chances.

Vitale did a good job tonight.

The Tangradi obsession is far beyond out of hand. If he got benched he shouldn't have, but he didn't do anything of note whatsoever.
