Cole has been going at a near PPG clip since his unfortunate start.

People forget this little fact very quickly when comparing contracts... You can sign 4 Coles and 4 Darches with that slight difference
It would be interesting lineup if we could clone the actual Cole and the actual Darche. I'd probably take that as my wingers. Not a bad team. Interesting.

Cole - Plekanec - Cole
Cole - Desharnais - Cole
Darche - Eller - Darche
Darche - Gomez - Darche

Cole does what Kovalev too often wasn't willing to do: pay the price.

Maybe a little but let's face it, he did a lot for this team and often took charge when Markov was out. I don't regret him having been a Hab at all.

As for Cole, he is doing great and I am not worried about the deal being for 4 years.

Not only Kovalev but to many other Habs in recent memory.

We need more guys that play with this much energy. I always liked Erik Cole and was psyched the Habs signed him. Sure he makes a lot of money, but who doesn't on a UFA contract? I'm not paying him.

He doesn't make a lot of money for a guy that is on pace for 30 goals and is one of the more physical players in the NHL.

He makes the same money as Leino who isn't in the same class physically.

As long as Cole keeps scoring at a 25 goal pace the next couple years it will be a great contract.

Plus, the difference between him and some other players is that even when he's not scoring, he's creating things on the ice.

Yeah that's what I meant. He still brings the intensity and physical game.

Was traded here during the last year of his contract before becoming a UFA, who we signed for 4 years.

So yes, he was technically a UFA signing.

Cole has a heart of a lion and hopefully we get to see him being his leadership and intensity in the Playoffs, whether we somehow make it this year or in the seasons to come. Great Signing, hopefully he gets Gill's 'A' when Gill leaves/retires. I can see him being the mentor to many of our young forwards.

It's perfect how similar a game Max plays compared to Cole. I hope he also rubs off on Leblanc, Gallagher, etc.

Yes he did, Gainey even defended his lack of UFA signings that summer by saying that Kovalev was his big UFA signing as he was competing with other teams to get him.

I could send you a link, but why would I lose my time when you didn't...

Its too bad that we probably won't be able to see his thick lustrous beard in the playoffs this year.
