as implausible as it would be for the two teams to make such a move, i guess Wash would have to be clearly out of it, Semin with Malkin would be awesome
Pens wouldnt want that loser.

Pens would have to send salary back if the picked up Semin. However there's no way Washington trades Semin to the Pens (assuming they wanted him). If all goes well for the Caps they may have to face the Pens in the post season... no point in giving them more firepower that could backfire and kill your season.

If Semin is traded, I see him being moved for a piece that's more than a rental to the Caps (like the Gogo/Neal trade the Pens did). They'd most likely move him out west, but if the right offer came around I'm sure they'd jump on it.

That being said, there's no way the Pens could afford to re-sign Semin next year (and sign Neal and Niskanen) without Semin taking a massive cut (down to 3-4m range), dumping some salary and having the cap go up. And that's assuming the Pens would give up what the Caps are looking for...

These teams really are not good trading partners - especially when both are fighting for the same playoff spot.

There might not be a player in the league who would fit Bylsma's system worse than Alexander Semin.

Matt D'Agostini could be had from St. Louis, though I'm not sure what the Blues would be interested in. Maybe J. Staal, but I know he's not available. Orpik, Letang, or Martin, though I'm not sure Pitts would look to move any of the three. Obviously, if D'Ags heads to Pitt, STL is adding to get any of the aforementioned players.

Anybody think the teams make good partners?

not sure if serious. none of the 4 you mentioned would be traded for him.

Definitely not for that kind of cost.

We have Matt D'agostino, his name is Tyler Kennedy.

Hence, why I said STL would add.

Not sure about his NTC but I'd love to see Martin moved (due to cap and Niskanen needing a new contract). STL would have to add though, but honestly no clue how much.

Earlier in the thread, a Pitt fan claimed that the Pens need a sniper rather than playmaker. D'Agostini is our fastest skater with an insane shot. That's mainly why I suggested him. He can also play top 6 minutes and is likely going to be pushed lower on the totem pole after McDonald and Steen return in the next week or two.

A lot. You could have started off with a better player when inquiring about some of those names. Matt is a filler not a starter for that kind of trade, for some of the names you listed.

I mean, if Pens keep Crosby on LTIR until playoffs and save that cap space for Selanne. That would be my dream coming true, if the price won't be too expensive to get Selanne (Not hoping that situation for Crosby though, even it seems more and more likely at this point).

Playoffs:

Kunitz - Crosby - Selanne
Neal - Malkin - Kennedy
Sullivan - Staal - Dupuis
Cooke - Vitale - Adams
Park

Orpik - Letang
Martin - Michalek
Niskanen - Engelland
Lovejoy

Won't happen, but if it did, line would be-

Dupuis - Crosby- Selanne
Kunitz - Malkin - Neal
Cooke - Staal - Kennedy
Sully - Vitale - Adams
Asham

David Jones? Having a down year, but so is everyone offensively with the Avs and he put up 27 goals last year. Pending UFA.

Those Sault Ste Marie kids all look alike to you eh?

I agree though. They come from the same place and they play a similar style. Up and down the wing and shoot as soon as they have a lane to the net. Another right handed shot might be a good thing on the Pens though.

As a Canucks fan, I would be totally down with a Raymond for Niskanen swap.

How about something along the lines of....

To Pittsburgh:
Brad Boyes

To Buffalo:
4th Round Pick

Don't see how this guy could have much value given his play and his remaining cap hit ($4.0 Million) for the year. It just doesn't seem to be working out in Buffalo for him. But he still has some potential and did score 40+ goals one season. I don't think that was just an accident. He is a UFA at the end of the year. So if he doesn't work out, the Pens let him walk. I could see him playing well with one of the Pens top 2 lines. This would probably be better suited to be a trade deadline day deal given cap purposes and if Buffalo are sellers and out of the playoff race. So what do you think, is value there?
