As for Moen, looking at the UFAs coming up I think Taylor Pyatt could effectively replace him at 1.5/year. He doesn't fight, but he's big, he hits, and he puts up more points than Moen.
The big loss from Moen to Pyatt would be toughness, PK and overall defensive play. Pyatt would fit better to replace AK than Moen IMHO.

Keep AK, trade Moen (more bang for the buck on a trade there IMHO) and sign Tootoo to replace Moen

We have already Subban, Beaulieu and Emelin in defense. So I don't give a **** about Gill v2.0 and Weber seriously.
Eller can't stay a third line center. There's Desharnais before him.

Why do people want Palmieri? Yeah he's 6'2" but big deal. He doesn't hit or fight much and his stats are underwhelming...Darche II?

Speaking of Nashville, a couple of thoughts:

We have to be looking for a long term replacement for Markov. At even strength, Subban will be a monster for a long time, but I don't think anyone has stepped up to run the PP. How about Ryan Ellis? If Nashville keeps Shea and Suter, do they need another dman on the top PP? The Preds need to prove they are committed to winning short term, to re-sign their big guns. Every playoff round also nets them much needed cash. The Habs have an opportunity to rebuild, to trade some good players for a long term piece.

The other thought, Radulov. Currently dominating on an otherwise mediocre KHL team - http://www.eliteprospects.com/team.p...2&status=stats Jagr has shown that a player returning to the NHL from the KHL can have success, and Emelin's adaptation has been encouraging. Radulov will be 26 next season. His Desjardins NHLE translates to 80pts/82games this season. He has played in Quebec before, so at least the experience should be familiar, less scary to him than to other free agents.

We got to think if Ellis is coming our way Subban is on his way out. I don't see Nashville trading him unless PK goes there.

I don't see Nashville moving Ellis especially with them probably losing one of Suter or Weber. He would cost an aram and a leg to add, plus we have a lot of similar players in Subban, Diaz, Weber, Markov.

Radulov I'm sure they wouldn't give him away, but they can't be asking for full value on a player that hasn't played there in 3-4 years. I wouldn't mind if we acquired him but I would want something signed taht says he will be here next year with a contract extension July 1st.

EDIT: I wish this was real. I'm in an online league and just got Jaroslav Halak + David Perron for Carey Price + Travis Moen.
Uh no. They need a PMD to go along with Merrill next season (Larsson is solid but he's more of the quiet 2-way guy). Sure they can draft one in the summer and wait til he develops but they still think they are contenders, so they need mobility and offense on D right now. They have enough depth with Palmieri and the like to cover for the loss of Clarkson who is simply depth.

And note that I said "ish". I meant that it won't be straight up. Where we disagree is that Clarkson >>> Weber, which is crazy.

Weber to NYI for a 3rd
Moen to a buyer for a 2nd (though I might want to keep him if he stays at 1.5m)
Gill to a buyer for a 2nd
Campoli for a.. 4th?

Make a big move for Parise in the off-season.

Zach Parise said he wants to play for a winner and a team that will compete for the Cup, we ain't that team! Parise isn't signing here

Seriously think the Wings, the best puck possession team in the league will be interested in Hall Skill? Lets not fool yourself, the best we will get for Gill is a mid late round pick..

IMO, he will sign where the cash is. If the best offer is 6.5-7M and the Habs one is around 7.5 with an extra year, I'm pretty sure he accepts. But hey, we never know.

I'd try to move Kaberle+ for Vermette. We desperately need centre help.

1. Trade AK to a playoff team for a 1st
2. Trade Moen to a buyer for a 2nd
3. Trade Plekanec, Weber, Gomez, Campoli, 2nd (from Moen trade) and a 4th in 2013 for Eric Staal and Victor Rask
4. At the draft, trade our 1st and the 1st from the Kostitsyn trade for a top 3 pick and draft Grigorenko
5. In the 2nd round, draft Tanner Pearson
6. In the off-season, resign Price, Subban, and sign Parise and Cody McLeod

2012-2013 lines:

Cole-Staal-Bourque
Paciotetty-DD-Grigorenko
Leblanc-Eller-Gionta
McLeod-Engvist-White

Subban-Gorges
Kaberle-Emelin
Markov-Diaz

Price
Budaj

Powerplay Lines:

Cole-Staal-Bourque
Subban-Markov

Paciotetty-DD-Grigorenko
Kaberle-Diaz

PK Units:

Leblanc-Staal
Gorges-Emelin

Engvist-Grigorenko
Subban-Markov

We could find these types of players this summer on the UFA list and Moen migh even be there. Trade him now and get a pick or prospect. That's how things need to be done. If we can't sign him during the off season, we would have lost him for nothing which has happened way to many times in the last 10 years

Would you trade Price for Eberle + Dubnyk?

Obviously it would never happen, but I'm just wondering.

No, we need Price as much as they need a franchise goalie.

Again, we have no one to replace him... if we still had Halak, he'd be different, but right now we got to focus on our needs, not create new ones.

I wouldn't be completely against extending him, but only if we can't get a 2nd and the price(1.5 mil for 2-3 years) is good. If we have to pay him 2 mil or more cap hit, I think it's too much for a guy that will likely be a 4th liner.

Don't get me wrong I like Moen as well but this isn't about liking a guy anymore, we need to think going forward and the best move for the Montreal Canadiens right now is to sell, and Moen is having a good season so we are selling high.

I just feel it's harder (at least for us) to find a player who is capable of dominating a game. Eberle is that type of player.

Dubnyk isn't playing well this year, but he was fantastic last year. He's a big goalie as well and still has some potential.

We could also try to pry Ben Bishop out of St. Louis.. maybe they'd be interested in getting Palushaj back? OR we could offer Josh Harding the starting job and he'd probably sign as a UFA.

-----------------

A trade from the main board from a Canucks fan.

Quote:
I did the same proposal for Gill and Moen, but a bit different

2nd Round + 4th Round (NYI) + Victor Oreskovich for

Hall Gill + Travis Moen
...

I'd do it. Would you?

It would give us an unreal 4th line that actually might be feared.

Oreskovich - White - Blunden

That line would hit HARD.

If we could pull off those two trades + sign Harding and re-up Kostitsyn, next year could look like (hopefully we could pick up a Top-4 defenseman and use KA-BOOM as our 3rd pairing);

Bourque - Plekanec - Eberle
Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole
Kostitsyn - Eller - Gionta
Oreskovich - White - Blunden
Nokelainen

Markov - Subban
Emelin - Gorges
Kaberle - Diaz
Weber - St-Denis

Harding
Dubnyk

EDIT: Forgot we still had Gionta cause he's never played this season.
