Chris Pronger (update: did not attend scheduled charity event on Jan. 18)

Nothing earth-shattering

MOD EDIT:

Quote:
On Saturday afternoon, Pronger, who has been in seclusion, released this statement:

“It is very, very tough right now,” he said. “I don't feel well and it hurts so much not to be playing.”

For nearly one month there has been absolute silence on both the Flyers part and Pronger’s.

Some of his closest friends say they have not heard from him.

Privately, players say Pronger has not had much contact with the club, although general manager Paul Holmgren says he talks to Pronger once or twice a week.

Recently, Holmgren said that Pronger was still having lingering concussion issue and there was little, if any hope, of it getting better this season.

Team officials are worried about Pronger’s fragile mental state of mind, in the sense that he may be suffering from depression caused by having to deal for the first time in his career with a head injury that is not getting better.

Pronger has always prided himself on his ability to recover from injury and train at the highest level. He can no longer do that.

The fact Pronger has gone into seclusion also worries the club and fellow teammates.

Pronger reportedly has been spending time in St. Louis. His wife, Lauren, is a St. Louis native.

Yep. For a warrior like him to be facing such a rapid end to a hall of fame career, I'm sure it's tearing him apart. Plus, being around the team must be a bit like a Sixth Sense feeling; I'm part of this team, but I'm not and may never be again.

I just hope he gets well enough where he can live a relatively healthy life. Just by the tone of his statement, it does not sound well. I hope I am wrong here, But it looks like we may have seen the last of our Captain playing for us again. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. We can only hope that given the time off he will heal and be able to return to resume his playing career.

Good Luck Chris.

Has to be frustrating for Pronger. That guy used to heal like Wolverine!

All the best Chris!

That's great news. One of the weirdest things to read/see was his complete seperation from the team. I am assuming this was in part bc of symptoms and/or because of his state of mind about his career potentially ending. But I figure half the battle with concussions is in your head (well also literally but i mean figuratively) - and maybe re-entering normalcy and being around his teammates will provide a much needed break from the constant reminder of the unknown future of his career.

Yup, I hope he is getting therapy for that because that could end up putting him in a downward spiral.

No Chris Pronger tonight at the fashion show... Wife said it was a bad day for him. Sad to hear. I hope sooner or later he starts showing signs of improving

Edit: Lisa Hillary will have a full interview with Lauren Pronger on CSN's sportsnight and it will also we up on the CSN website.

Damn she's hot.

My gut says we have seen Pronger play his last NHL game, which absolutely sucks

Yea, I am in agreement (on both things). When it comes down to quality of life being in danger... nothing is worth it.

I had the same nauseating feeling when he skated off the ice as I did when I saw Bernie Parent get sticked in the eye. Pronger played again but the sense of distress was immediate.

That video was depressing to hear, especially the last part I quoted. That sounds like zero progress.
