McIlrath was ejected tonight for "Checking to the Head." The box score seems to cite rule 48.3, which in the WHL is a headbutt that actually connects. It also carries an automatic game misconduct, which he also received. It will be interesting to see if it was indeed a headbutt, and what comes of it.

That's pretty intense. I can't fathom him ACTUALLY headbutting a guy.

Is that his headbutt?

I don't see it. Looks like he just nailed a guy significantly smaller than he is.

That's the alleged "headbutt"....I agree with you 100%...the guy is smaller than he is so it's natural he would run into his shoulder. If you notice McIlrath doesn't leave his feet to deliver the hit. Should be interesting to see if he gets suspended.

It looks like he got the arm/elbow up.

And maybe your right, but it's really hard to tell from those replays. To me, it just looks like he was following through on his hit.

yeah, almost impossible to see from that video what happened, other than the puck carrier made a huge mistake in not paying attention to where a guy like McIlrath was. he actually had his head up going up the ice and then started looking down at the puck, you just can't do that. He'd get killed at the NHL level for something like that

It looked like McIlrath got the arm up, but I didn't seem like he hit him in the head. Hard to tell. The kid looked pretty out of it, hope he's ok.

I would really like McIllrath to begin to focus less on the fighting, nastiness side of the game and more the hockey part. He was the 10th overall pick in the draft, you can get a player that does what he does in the 7th round.

looks like he got a game for wrecking someone more so than a hit to the head.

Little blurb on pashnin in here.

It's not what you would call complimentary in nature. It's from oct. Take it for what it's worth nothing surprising tho

I never really understood why some fans on this board thought highly of him. He's been nothing more then a fringe player/depth guy in the KHL, he's undersized for the type of game he plays, and yet, some people thought he had a chance of making the NHL team right off the bat.

I guess they just saw the "drafted 1st overall in KHL draft" and saw him hitting younger players in the prospects camp.

might be an illegal hit to the head, but i wouldn't call it a headbutt...when i read that last night i was picturing a fight or scrum where he literally wwe-style headbutted the guy lol

Yup, you can see the forearm/elbow to the head at 5:42. Good call. Can't be going after players heads these days.

Shane McColgan last night earned 2 points (1 G, 1A) in a 3 - 2 loss to Everett last night, again he was visibly the best player on the ice, and his two-way game was also impressive, he was also playing centre for the majority of the game and taking draws.

Low point was end of 2nd period taking a stupid penalty to put the rockets down a man going into the 3rd after just scoring himself to make the game within' 1 in which the Silvertips actually scored on to make the game 3 - 1.

He made many beautiful passes in which players just couldn't convert on (been happening a lot this year) and the Rockets as a whole looked lost in the offensive end on even strength.

Still looks 50/50 to me. Can't really tell if it's a hit to the chest or to the head, IMO.

In the box score, the penalty had, in parentheses, 48.3. I looked up rule 48.3 and it was headbutting. Either the box score was wrong, the rule has changed, or I'm just making **** up.

It definitely isn't a headbutt, though.

Mcilrath has rocks in his head if he thinks he's gonna throw hits like that in the NHL and not be disciplined. The player was already engaged by Mcilrath's teammate, that hit was high, aimed at the head, and unnecessary, everything that gets you a lengthy suspension these days.

I for once would like to see a highlight of DM that isn't a fight or questionable hit.

On Pashnin, people knew he was the top pick in the KHL draft (but didn't know the relative insignificance of that) and heard that he likes to hit. Coupled with a lack of actual exposure, many people had high hopes. He has been tremendously overrated ever since. Remember when some claimed he'd make the team this season?

A highlight reel of him playing positional defense? How often do you see those, for anyone? I understand your point but the elements of his game that translate to highlight reels are just what you said you don't want to see.

who are the meanest, nastiest players in the game on the defensive end who can take regular nhl shifts?

how many of them are taken outside the first round?

wasnt a fan of the mcilrath pick, but boy oh boy, if he pans out, adding that kind of nasty to a defense that is already borderline elite (when healthy) makes me absolutely drool.
