Comments about Voracek and a possible new pact can be made here...

Quote:
NEARLY 15 FANS from the Czech Republic gathered around Jaromir Jagr and Jake Voracek yesterday in the Flyers' locker room for pictures and autographs.

Hanging just outside the room was another Czech, former Flyers defenseman Petr Svoboda, who was meeting with general manager Paul Holmgren upstairs at the team's South Jersey practice facility.
Quote:
Voracek earns $2.25 million this season but he will be due a raise. The only question is how big? He's durable, fast and talented. He's sixth on the team in power play time per game - a number that is rising because of his crafty ability to break into the offensive zone and slow the play down to set up the formation.

Posted something about this in the miscellaneous thread haha. Would love to get him to sign for three or four years. I feel like in two years the guy will be close or even a 70 point player. Columbus gave up on him to quick in my mind. I also remember him somewhat playing for Columbus and he looks like a total different player(of course that was only a small sample size).

4 years 13 million=3.25
3 years 10.5 million=3.5

of course he will be signed somewhere in the fours since I think those are fair numbers haha

I'm hoping for 3 years @ $3.75m still making him an RFA at the end of that contract where we can then decide if we want to commit to him long-term

I wouldn't hate something like 6/23 just to lock him up long-term. Something similar to JVR's deal...

Given his age , Production to date I think something close to what Patrick Sharp got from Hawks in 08 would be expected

4 yrs / 3.9M is what Sharp got

I guess a number closer to four does make sense with the comparables out there.

The cap has gone up a lot since 08. He should get a "percentage" of the max cap similar to what Sharp's percentage of the max cap in 08 was IMO. I can honestly see him sogning something very close to the one that JVR just signed. Something along the lines of 4-4.2 mil for 6 years is something I'd be very happy with. 25 mil over 6 years, 4.16667 mil per year cap hit. i think Jake would be happy with that.

Potential lineup:

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jaromir Jagr ($3.000m)
Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m) / Jake Voracek ($4.166m)
James Van Riemsdyk ($4.250m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)

DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Chris Pronger ($4.921m)
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
Erik Gustafsson ($0.900m) / Andreas Lilja ($0.737m)

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.666m) / Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $68,350,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,105,040; BONUSES: $3,555,000
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $4,244,960

The cap should easily go up to 68.5 mil. If Pronger is out next year then we'd have just about 9 mil for a top 4 dman, 13th forward, 7th dman and space for injury call-ups.

Edit: we COULD have enough money to go after suter as a UFA this off-season if he doesn't resing but honestly, if he leaves I think I'd rather resign Carle and wait until the NEXT off-season to sign a big named dman. Timonen and Hartnell will be off the books freeing up 10.5 mil in cap space and if suter leaves this year then it's likely that Weber only signs a 1 year deal and then leaves as a UFA the following year. I'd rather have Weber than Suter if I had my choice.

If he would still be an RFA after 3 years, that makes the most sense. Just like it did with Giroux.

VanRiemsdyk is a good comparism, I think. Both score on a similar pace, both are the same age / same draft year. JVR should get a bit more because of his goal scoring ability, goals are more expensive than assists. Overall, a deal around $4MM for four or five years would be nice.

Voracek is in his fourth season already, a three year deal would bring him right to unrestricted free agency.

2 years 3.5 each year would be fantastic.

4 years at 4 would be just dandy too.

Then count me in on a 2 year deal. Either that, or something long term (which is inherently risky).

I'm not sure I like JVR as a comparison. At a cursory glance I think they are a good comparison, but that's it.

Voracek outproduced him over his first 2 years, while playing similar minutes on a worse team. The big difference here is that JVR has had a significantly larger playoff sample, and, quite frankly, his 7 playoff games last year probably directly resulted in his new contract way more than his first 2 seasons did.

This is without even considering the eyeball test too. Voracek just looks better. Sure, JVR looks fantastic 1 out of every 20 games; but that's it. Voracek has it every night. He's just more impressive to me.

Everyone knows I dislike JVR however haha.

So will Voracek get more? I think he should, because I think he's a better player. But how much did the playoffs factor into JVR's extension? (I think it was THE reason.) So maybe they end up being similar (if they do a long term deal).

I want/predict for 2 years 7 million.

I heard some commentators talking about the $68M range too.

Also, depending on the CBA, would these ELC with bonuses not be removed from the cap hit by the start of the season, if not over the summer?

Also, you forgot Jody Shelley...

I'd say 3 to 3.5M a year. He deserves it.

What commentators were talking about those numbers? First time I heard about them but there is so much uncertainty with the CBA

Also Homer updated the situation to Timmah

I don't know if this makes much sense though... why just talk about the player if your in town... It has to be negotiations.

We can not plan on the cap going up with the owners making noise that they want the percentage reduced.

The NFL and NBA both came in around 50%, the NHL isn't going to stay at 57%, I don't think.

Some say that the cap will rise dramatically due to the new TV deal, and some think that the NHL will push it down with the new CBA by cutting the players share. Hopefully for us it will continue to rise.

I say 2 years at 3.4 each. Goals tend to count more than assists (unless you're last name is Gomez). I'm usually terrible at guesstimating these things though.

Edit: Missed Mountainhawk's post there.

I think everyone knows he's gonna get a raise. Hopefully under $4 mil, but I'd guess somewhere around $4 mil (give or take $25k).
