I have a feeling that Condra is one of those coach's pet type players because he generally makes the smart and safe play, but also works hard and has a little sneakiness to go with it.

Even when Kelly wasn't contributing offensively, his ice-time rarely suffered.

Greening's style of play is the power-forward mould, which seems to take longer to develop. It's well worth the investment of time though.

All you have to do is look at a team like Montreal whose only real shining light of development is the potential of a Lars Eller.

Not to mention, Greening contributed in a huge way when he ragged the puck in the offensive zone for a good 20 seconds at the end of the last game with his strength and skating.

Personally, I think Butler is the odd one out of these three, but I'm hoping he can turn things around in the goal scoring department.

I agree. Smith and Condra made us not miss Fisher and Kelly as much.

Leafs fan, not trolling but a serious question

watching that last game its evident that Spezza is now the leader of the Sens. He seems to be doing so much more on both ends of the ice then he ever did. Seemed more gritty and intense. Was that just one game or has he turned a corner? less of a goof.

What i was thinking that if it was the case that this year he has really stepped up it would be a huge gesture for Alfie to give him the C. Seeing as how this is a new group/window and something like that might really resonate with Spezza. Obviously Alfie is a legend with the Sens and having a great year but i think it would make even more beloved to do something like that.

Alfie's not gonna give up the C until he retires, just stating that now.

I think it'll definitely go to Spezza when he does retire though.

Hes been great, this year. He may get the "C", but I feel the "C" will goto Karlsson when its all said and done.

lol not a chance. Spezza will get it way before Karlsson. Spezza will probably get it next and Karlsson will get it when spezza retires

yeah.

up till now, the question has been whether spezza would be ready for it in time or if phillips/fisher would have to keep it warm for him for a year or two.

i'm pretty sure it's going straight to giggles now.

Spezza will be next Captain, I kinda hope they do the transition in public, spur of the moment, type deal to blindside the fans in awesomeness.

Am I the only one who finds that Karlsson doesn't exude the Captain aura that Alfie emits?
Spezza gives off a hint of it to me but i'm not sold yet.

Well keep in mind he's two years younger than Alfie was when he entered the league.

I think he could easily mature into the role but I also agree that I don't see him being a young captain in the NHL.

Cowen could also be in line for it down the road IMO.

While I agree for the most part my guess is that it is between Condra & Butler
since Murray was quick to give Greening a 3 yr contract & the other two a two yr contract. The big power forward type is what ottawa has wanted for yrs & they seem to have that in Greening & he has developed some good chemistry with Spezza & Michalek. Greening could end up with over 30 pts in his rookie yr, not too shabby.

Butler is the better goal scorer while Condra is smarter & very good defensive specialist. While Condra is on the 2nd line now & I think most agree that is the one area that they would like to upgrade. If Butler can start scoring & he keeps getting chances & has hit a few posts, he could be the guy but he could also be traded for an upgrade. Drew Stafford would be an interesting deadline pickup for Ottawa that might not cost that much & could fit on that 2nd line.

That's because he's 21 and one of the youngest players on the team. We haven't had a chance yet to really see how he shows up in big games (playoffs) and what his potential is. All we know at this point is that he's likeable and people pretty much gravitate towards him.

I don't think anyone knew Alfie would be the captain when he was 24 coming off his Calder year.

This team only goes as far as Spezza can take it. Alfredsson is having an amazing season, but his best before date is past due.

I don't see Alfredsson stepping down as Captain, and I don't think that he should, BUT it would be nice to see him personally pass the C along to the next Captain when it is time.

I think it has to be Spezza. We saw how he stepped up when Alfredsson was injured most of last year. It's his team. Alfredsson is morphing into Selanne mode. He probably has a couple of effective seasons left in him, but we need to accept that he won't be the superman he once was.
