If I was the Avs I'd resign Jones. Maybe he doesn't ever score goals again. That's fine, he's got good speed and size and can play on a third line. I think he's worth keeping.

Even with his craptastic performance this year, he's still a 30 point player.

Just was able to watch the highlights. Good to see Mueller finally get one. That 2nd one was awesome, and could really improve the PP. Also, Stastny looked really pumped after the OT goal. Hopefully he has got some confidence and can keep his good play up. Good to hear EJ was a beast. That supports my theory that EJ plays better when he gets more minutes. He had almost 27 last night.

Too bad that was a little over a week into the season.

However, not to nitpick too much (because I would consider this more of a big save they needed rather than a bad goal to give up) but I would say that ideally he should have been able to flash his pad quicker, since it takes that much longer for the puck to get to the far post than five hole. It didn't redirect and go in crazy quick, but I admit it was a bit of a tough save.
On one of the replays it was pretty clear. O'Byrne was trying to clear the puck to the far corner and it hit Landeskog's stick which was against the FLA player's skate. It really surprised Jiggy as it was redirected to the far post. Not much he could have done on any of the goals. It was a rough night for him luck-wise. Kudos to him for not getting discouraged by that.

Just watched the full game my thoughts.

1. So happy to see Mueller score not once but twice. When he released that shot on the first goal I really thought he was gonna get drilled by Weiss? I think it was. Thankfully it wasnt a head hunter like MAtt Cooke comingin on him.

2. One of those games where you cant blame a single goal on Giggy. Wow what the hell was he supposed to do on either of those 3 goals? Ryan O'Byrne scores one, Weiss punches one in, terrible luck and bounce to Kopescky on the third goal.

3. Glad to see Stastny redeem himself from that flub shot in the first. He played well go figure playing with Mueller and not Great Gamer Porter.

4. Johnson was the ONLY d-man to play well. Hell of a game and I fully support playing him 27-28 minutes a night. Seems he plays better with SOB aswell.

5. Yah the Elliott experiment needs to end once Hejda's vagina is feelin better. Another awful game from the kid. The speed and wear and tear are really taking a toll on him. Send him down for more seasoning because hes not quite there yet but the potential is great.

6. Ryan O'Reilly is the captain of this team. I dont care what that says on Hejduks jersey. Sets up Mueller for that nice shot and scores another GWG for us. Big goals at big times just like a former number 37 on this team.

7. Glad to see Winnik play the position hes meant to play 3rd line grind. Hes perfectly fine on the 3rd anywhere in the top 6 is asking him to fail.

8. Galiardi is pimp. He reminds me of Ville Nieminen even wears the same number as Nemo.

9. Anyone have a pic of Muellers blade? Thats a curve and a half if I ever seen one.

10. Play varly in LA and Giggy in Anaheim.

If only the other player was Hejda this pic would be epic.

Anyway I was thinking about the line-up for the rest of the season as soon as Duchene is ready to go again.
Considering that everyone's healthy we can't have VDG in the line-up due to our cap-situation.

Considering we have

Galiardi-Staz-Mueller
Landeskog-Duchene-Hejduk
Kobasew-O'Reilly-Jones
Winnik-McClement-

as our regulars in forwards and

Johnson-O'Brien
Quincey-Hejda
Wilson-O'Byrne
Hunwick (due to cap)

as our regulars in defense with

Varly
Giggy

in net, we have 3 players that can fill up those remaining spots.

McLeod has one spot guaranteed due to his high cap (1.0333333) so that means we have 2 players left. (of course, we could send him down but that would lead to the cap being very, very tight and give us absolutely no leeway in regards to call-ups)
Here, we could go with these combinations:
Elliott(0.9)-Porter/Olver (both 0.85)
Porter-Olver

or even

Barrie(0.9)-Porter/Olver

if we would choose Porter-Olver we would be 0.258333m over the cap and if we choose either Barrie or Elliott we'd be 0.308333m over the cap.
Considering that the cap-differential between VDG and Porter/Olver is 0.325, it means that VDG must be the odd-man out if we have everyone healthy.

Ideally I would have

Galiardi-Staz-Mueller
Landeskog-Duchene-Hejduk
Olver-O'Reilly-Jones
Winnik-McClement-Kobasew
Porter-McLeod

The 7d without Elliott or Barrie

which would out us 0.258333m over the cap

(please respond if you see an error in my calculations, it would be much appreciated)

well now with Yip out, there is actually no need to keep McLeod up, as Olver-Porter-Elliott/Barrie would be enough to get over the cap (no-one else with a high-enough caphit to deserve a spot (Stoa does not deserve) so that became moot as Yip was claimed)

0.155m over the cap if we have

Galiardi-Staz-Mueller
Landeskog-Duchene-Hejduk
Olver-O'Reilly-Jones
Winnik-McClement-Kobasew
Porter

as our regulars in forwards and

Johnson-O'Brien
Quincey-Hejda
Wilson-O'Byrne
Hunwick, Elliott/Barrie

I don't know about bumping O'Reilly down to the third line. He has been our best player and deserves that second center spot. I think Duchene has got to go back to wing for now and bump Gally down. Gally can play the grinder role too.

My main point though was that no matter how well VDG plays, he can't stay up due to the cap if everyone's healthy and I provided some insight which players could be brought up/sent down.

But it's tricky, we could use also Duchene with Olver and Jones, but I really think Duchene needs to go back to center. He has had a torrid time on the wing, and I fear that he doesn't feel at all comfortable there.

And am I the only one who wants to claim Repik off waivers?
I think he could replace Porter/VDG/McLeod

I fear it is, but they'll wear it only during warmups and if I'm not mistaken every team has their version.

Yea I hear it's a warmup jersey too.

As for the game: Freakin great to see Mueller grab not one but 2 goals last night. The Avs always seem to have good games vs the Panthers

I'm as happy as anyone that Mueller showed what he did, but at the same time it put the finishing of the rest of the forwards on this team in perspective. Duchene and Mueller are the only ones having shown above average shots this year.

We need Stastny, Jones, Hejduk and Landeskog to be sharper if we want to sneak into the playoffs.
