Lebda isnt as bad as people make him out to be. He just needs to play within his game. He is a pretty decent puck mover, but he should tends to be to aggressive sometimes and he pays for it.
I think if he settles down and makes quick passes he will be ok. He isnt amazing, but I have seen worse. Komisarek did the same thing, the last two years, he tried to do to much and was **** because of it. Once he settled down this year he has been pretty good.
The Jackets are assuring themselves of a lottery pick with that move. Not that it wasn't guaranteed before but the addition of Lebda pretty much seal the deal.
That's like adding the missing piece but in reverse.
Now this is surprising. Bryan McCabe and Nick Boynton are still looking for work. Of all guys, Lebda gets signed. Better late than never I assume, for him of course.
Two words, which make up a quickly developing CBJ fan meme, describe this signing perfectly. Why did we just sign Brett Lebda?

Lebda is awful. Hes arguably the worst player in the league.
He was a minus 3 in a 9-3 Leafs win. Just think about that for a minute.

First off its one game
Secondly were they all his fault? You can't analyze a player based on plus minus.
Toronto fans just love to pick a player to hate every year, and last year it was Lebda. I am not saying his is awesome, but he is not as bad as people make him out to be.
Lebda isn't great, heck he isn't even really good, but he can be alright when he just keeps it simple. His big problems are almost always caused by trying to do too much. He is a strong skater and quite frankly with as bad as things are in Columbus I see no harm in trying him out. Hope he latches on, always liked the guy even if he made me angry at times. If he fails it won't be because he doesn't work hard and try his very best.
Most Leafs fans tore this guy to shreds, and most times it was in their right. He was brutal.
But I truly hope he finds his way. Toronto can ruin many careers, and his resume (pre-Leafs) was pretty decent..I think he can still be useful on some blue line.
I just can't believe he was traded to Nashville for Franson and Lombardi...
Aki Berg was the worst dman I have ever saw. Lumme was pretty terribad as well. I didn't think Lebda was as bad as them, but still not good. He should be like a teams 10th defenceman or something.
Berg and Lumme could add some occasional offense. Lebda was all offense, jump into the play and forget about his own zone later.
If he plays on a defensive minded team, with a rock steady blueliner he might be a little effective, but those teams aren't a lot in the NHL.
When Lebda was with the Wings I had no problem with him. I preferred him playing in the bottom pairing over Lilja other then PK'ing. If Lebda takes this opportunity and plays his game a very simple bottom pairing role and skates the puck he will be fine. If he tries to be the player the Leafs fans and management were hoping he would be not a chance.
If he plays a simple game like in Detroit he is far from the worst players in the league. He becomes very serviceable. I think a lot of the hatred coming from Leaf fans is due to the expectations they placed on him by management giving him such a large contract and hoping he could fill a role with Kaberle leaving. I'm glad to see he's gotten another shot.
Tyutin - Nikitin
Methot - Moore (rookie)
Johnson - Savard (rookie)
Clitsome has been a scratch since Richards took over.
There was an announcement yesterday that Martinek is done for the year (he only played 7 games all season before the concussion).
With the Lebda signing, that gives us 8 guys at the NHL level. Are they going to send Savard back down? Is someone else going to be traded? The next home game is on 2/7 (All-Star break in there though). Do they want 8 guys on the road trip?
Unless Savard is headed back down, I think there is something else in the works, teams usually don't carry 8 defensemen for very long.
(If we ignore his time in Toronto, we could just pretend that this was a Commodore for Lebda swap. )
Things will probably get worse for the CBJ before they get better anyway. Most likely Prospal and Pahlsson will get moved (don't know about Huselius - he's been hurt almost all season but a UFA).

Leafs fans didn't have high expectation for Lebderp, the guy was just flatout awful. There's a reason why he was dealt and there's a reason why the Preds didn't want him and he didn't get signed till now. Detroits system has the ability to hide the faults of players.
